Tesla Model S P85D vs Mercedes-Benz E63s AMG Drag Racing 1/4 Mile
#51
those days are over, Tesla has been steadily increasing the top end performance....
Tesla are fast cars from 0-60 because of the electric motor. You get 100 percent torque starting at 0 miles per hour.
However, as you go faster with any electric motor you will get back EMF that slows down the electric motor because it would start acting like an electric generator. This is the reason why after 60 mph or after 80 mph an AMG would eat a Tesla for breakfast.

Btw, I saw your video on vbox vs 1/4 mile times (great stuff!). One comment, I have been running them simultaneously for years at the track. It seems that the roll-out at the track (at least how I like stage) usually matches up with 1.3' roll out on the vbox. My theory is that when they started the 1 foot roll out years ago, tire heights/rolling diameters were much smaller. Now when you have a 20" wheel rolling through, you are getting more roll out. I would be interested to see if your numbers match up as well.

thanks!, yea, most I've seen is just under 124 MPH, but there is an update out due this month that will bring that up to around 126 MPH... mid 10's in an all stock 5,000 pound sedan is pretty amazing...
not sure about roll out, I haven't compared rolling tire diameters and how that effects the roll out on vbox and track...

They definitely have. What is the highest 1/4 mile trap speed you have seen for the P100D? 123-124mph?

I'm comparing them this way with no further mods than a simple flash on the amg, it's fine.
stock e63s would still keep close with a pre update tesla trapping 123mph from a roll, so there you have it.

I know what you're saying but I have a hard time calling a tune modded. Along those lines, I'd have to call any Tesla modded if they got any updates...

so a factory update sent to the Tesla, that new Tesla cars out of the factory will have is the same as a 3rd party hacked Mercedes ECU that voids the warranty....

You're doing nothing more than recalibrating the original factory settings and not adding any hardware so in my opinion, yes. I'm not saying either you or I are right or wrong, it's just a matter of perspective.

Then once they do a roll race I think 9 out of 10 times the AMG will walk that tesla as it will trap 126-128mph with the renntech full tune.

clearly not the same, if there was a major problem, albeit unlikely, you would be on your own.... read the legalese with your warranty...
anyway, from a roll the AMG would walk a bit, but not much, and from a dig it would lose...

Many dealers support renntech tuned Mercedes without a problem. In fact you can even order it through the dealer with them doing the tune for you, exactly the same as tesla giving you the update with full warranty on both cars from factory.

I know people who have had renntech tuned C63 and E63 from the dealer and they always covered any issue under warranty. The dealer is doing the tune for you, they are not going to not cover you on major issues, that makes no sense.

mercedes benz of coral springs has always honored my warranty and they know i am renntech tuned, they even sent the ecu back to renntech for re-tune when they overwrote my tune during one visits...

But it really isn't the same having an aftermarket ECU upgrade and software update from the manufacturer. That is a definite advantage of the Tesla, as a zero emissions vehicle, it doesn't have to jump through all the red tape and bureaucratic BS to upload a performance software update.
Can you imagine what a manufacturer of a combustion engine would have to go through if it wanted to give its owners an increase in performance through a software update? Especially now after the VAG diesel debacle.

Mate....when this car is tuned and down piped....be ready to pee ur pants. I do not know if it's the added volume in sound, the bark or the savage thrust in the lower gears...to be honest, I have no idea why or what you would do with Turbo upgrades (proper ones ) ..its like why would you want more
Disclaimer
Save this and show it to me in a year and ask me if I went that route....might serve as an indicator if I was able to hold my demons in check....I will not mod more ...I will not mod more ....I have out grown this habit and do not intend to fly to the moon

Zod, just curious which tune are you running on your CLS63S?

Something I heard from dealer who did my Renntech....if you do the downpipes, MB could/will void your warranty if you have turbo or engine problems
