And the tesla now has to charge up for the next race...
That 63 looked like it was gaining on the tesla before they let up

Surprising coming from an electric car.
I would think the Tesla would be heavier. Nonetheless a tune on the E63 and the Tesla is behind.
But I'm still not convinced by this head to head.

Impressive to say the least - Tesla is quick 0-60 and 1/8 mile but that's about all its got, no top end. Comparing from dragtimes a Tesla P85D to my E63S (60ft, 330ft, 1/8, and 1/4)
P85D - 1.656 - 4.755 - 7.397 @ 91.37 - 11.683 @ 114.61
E63S - 1.834 - 5.010 - 7.587 @ 95.13 - 11.685 @ 121.23
Still that Tesla is a hell of a car

Impressive results for the Tesla. If someone told me five years ago that ane electric car can beat the fastest acclerating AMG in the quarter mile I would've laughed.
This doesn't make me want to buy a Tesla. I've test driven the performance model and found the suspension and the interior to be absolute garbage. But impressive powertrain.

Back to the racing, the 60' thru the 1320' on E63 S @ least in this match up isn't indicative of it's true potential, a simple ECU & supporting down pipes will have it taking the LEAD from the Tesla P85D from a dead stop thru the 1/4 mile by multi car lengths (every tenth in a drag race is roughly = to 1 car length)
2014 E63 S ECU/Dwn Pipes.. 1/4 mile in 10.85 http://www.dragtimes.com/Mercedes-Be...lip-26676.html Compared to Tesla P85D run above @ 11.68 = Tesla loosing by 8+ car lengths Even from the 60' a lightly modded E63 S would be leading @ 1.62 60' vs Tesla 1.65 60' Having said all this, the Tesla P85D is 1 wicked sled, Electric power is truly impressive on the low end..

and we can take an RS7 with some mods and wipe the floor with the modded E63s, so what?
there is an upcoming software update for the P85D to release additional high end power, we'll see how it runs then... I hate how the P85D dies on the top end.... 0-100 MPH and all around driving on the street, the Tesla is hard to beat...

Umm say again This E63 is the latest facelifted Biturbo 2014-15 AWD S model, it looks excellent & anything but dated/bland.. Now if you meant the previous Natty E63 or Jurassic E55 then ya it looks dated in comparo (though still anything but bland) vs the latest from Tesla..

I looked into Tesla and liked the car, but it just isn't for me. I just don't think I'm ready for an electric car. That said, the salesmen I spoke with were adamant that the new update will bring the car into the 10's and future updates will take it to solid tens. That is pretty insane!

I know other lightly modded SL600's SL65's here have seen 0-60 in 3.3... W/proper sticky tires on the rear, a SL600/SL65/CL65 etc modded similar to mine on a proper drag surface hit 10.7x 1/4 mile that equals high 2's 0-60 same w/ANY of these new E63/CLS63 Biturbo's w/10.8x 1/4 The AWD AMG's will be able to do this repeatedly on the street given nice smooth pavement etc
They should rename the P85D to plain/simple Tesla-TORQUE

I spent a long time comparing the P85 and the E63s wagon.
In the end, I just couldnt live with the Tesla interior. Thats really all it came down to. Im not ready yet for a car with a giant (JESUS CHRIST ITS MASSIVE HUGE WTF?) center console touchscreen instead of any buttons whatsoever.
Tesla had the interior of a car company that hadnt quite figured out how to match and join materials. For a counter-example, look at the VW GTI or an Audi A6. The interior design is so good that the low-cost materials don't negatively impact the car (as opposed to say a Ford Focus ST that feels like it was build by Rubbermaid). The Tesla seemed like the opposite. It felt cheap and low quality in spite of being made of decent materials.
I love all of the advantages of an electric car like the P85D. Other than the battery, there are so few parts to worry about, and Im not that proud of the fuel my 3 v8's consume. But the Tesla is car 1.9, not 2.0. I'll buy when it's 2.0. I hear the i8 may be that car. We'll see.

And the leather felt very cheap. The huge multi function screen and stereo were excellent.

Indeed. I would prefer to stay away from full electric vehicles for now. Having to keep an eye out all the time on the charge gauge and the closest charging stations would negate all the fun. On the other hand, the AMG has everything I need, despite being just a little tad slower. Yes, the Tesla is going to run out of steam at the top end. I'm also not a fan of large multifunctional display. For me, tactile-touch buttons for major functions are what I prefer. Exterior design and aesthetic is all subjective--I prefer E63's design over the Tesla at this time. Of course, I'm sure enough has been said about Tesla's interior quality at this time.

It looks terrible, like some tech nerd just snapped trying to upgrade his cars Navigation/DVD/Audio- entertainment etc system by hot-gluing his entire home computer setup onto his dasboard

Btw that was my E63S that's in the video. I ran the Tesla 2 weeks ago at the Street Car Drag event in Palm Beach. In the 1st race my reaction time was awful but in the 2nd race it was much better, which is why the race was closer. But in both races the E63 starts to pull on the Tesla at the 8th mile (1/2 track). But the Tesla is remarkable considering. Also the Tesla couldn't run back to back as it gets slower on back to back runs. Also my car is bone stock
