Smart key stopped working
Went in to store, came out and door wouldn't auto unlock upon touching the handle. Tried a little more deliberately, still nothing. Took the key out and pressed unlock, nothing. Had to use the tiny metal key to open the door. Oddly, push to start still worked. Got home just now and key would lock the door, but still can't get the auto unlock to work when I grab the handle. Picked up the car less than 2 months ago, i really hope the life of the batteries last longer than that. Our last q7 key lasted around 6 months and that seemed ridiculously short for me.

The batteries in the keyfob from the factory may be old as is...
Likely a replacement batt will fix this and you'll get many years out of it

Keyless - go
We are talking about the smart key battery.Mine lasted 10 months, what is
strange is both key says "battery key replace" at the same time, even though
one is just hanging on the wall.Just in case you want the number it is
CR 2025 3V but be careful cause if you bought something different its not
gonna work. The brand is Varta or Panasonic from the dealer.

The keyless entry and start button failed this morning on my new 2015 E63 S. Took it to the dealer who reflashed and updated the software in the control module for the keyless go. That fixed the problem. Quite annoying in a new car about a month old. But at least the fix was quick.

Anyone have 2 keyless go MB car keys on your keychain? My batteries last like 3 months and I'm not sure if it's because I keep two in proximity to one another, and it seemed to start when I got the 2nd.

You know, I had been thinking that my problem was not a bad battery. And now that I hear this, I'm leaning towards software problem. Hopefully they'll run this update when I get the LSD service at 1800 miles. Is this all I need to ask for? (update software in control module) or is there any additional infothat can help them find this update correctly? Thanks

Smart key issues
I, too, have had the software correction on my '15 (late 14 delivery). It seemed to correct the problem, but intermittently have had the car locking be unresponsive. Checked with service, but they had nothing new on the fix. They suggested that double tapping the smart key can cause a reset, but I'm not sure that is/was the problem. Yesterday the car unlocked, but would not start, saying no key was sensed. I pressed the lock button and the door locks worked, and then the keyless go would respond. When this happens neither key works, so it's not likely to be a battery issue.

Well, just got the 1850 lsd service out of the way. Also did the hood recall and had them update the smart key software. 3rd time trying to open the car, it did it again. Went to car in garage this morning and couldn't get in again. Except, this time after using my little metal key, the alarm started going off. With one kid napping inside, I frantically got in and tried to keyless start it, nothing, so I started to rip the start stop button off thinking, luckily correctly, that getting the key in the ignition would stop the alarm. The last couple times this happened, at least once I got in there was no alarm and I could still start it with the button. Drove it to where I was going and after returning to the car, it seemed to be working as normal again. I know this isn't as big of a problem as some new e63 owners have experienced, but this is still a pain in the ***. Especially after the supposed fix.

Sorry to hear man this is annoying
Is your keyfob near anything metallic or any rf or magnets or a cell phone?
May just need to replace the keyfobs themselves

Nope, nothing, I don't think it's interference. Every time this happens I take the key out of my pocket and point it at the car at close range. I may switch keys, long term, and see if it happens with the other fob.

I just forwarded your post to my dealer's service manager, and I will post whatever response I get. It happened again to me yesterday PM, got in the car, got the message no key detected. Using the smart key, while in the car with the door closed, i pressed the lock button and the door locked and mirrors folded. At that point the car could hardly deny me, and I pressed the keyless go, and it started. No further problems at that time.
