Engineering update: Alpha 5.5L Biturbo Carbon Fiber Intake System FIRST PROTOTYPE
The initial prototype unit for the Alpha Mercedes 5.5L Biturbo Carbon Fiber Intake System is here and we thought you would like a sneak peak! We will be using this piece to verify fitment and function within our E63 AMG 4MATIC test car. If everything goes well, you can expect to see an official release in 6 to 8 weeks!
You may have read our previous article on this Mercedes 5.5L Biturbo Intake System. If not, CLICK HERE for additional features and specs. It will offer quite a number of improvements over the stock unit and complement any Mercedes Benz E63 or CLS63 AMG Biturbo making higher than stock power! This includes vehicles equipped with our Alpha 5.5L Biturbo Tune, Alpha 7 Mercedes 5.5L Biturbo Performance Packages and the soon-to-be released Alpha 9 Mercedes 5.5L Biturbo Performance Packages for the E63 and CLS63 AMG.
We hope to have pricing established in a few short weeks.
@AMS Performance you mentioned that you want to keep the CF pattern in the same direction as the OEM optional CF engine cover. The factory cover's carbon weave is opposite of how you've got your prototype. The weave starts on the right and goes to the left in a downward direction. Can you produce the final product to match the OEM direction?
Yes, we are actually working on ways of LOWERING the cost to produce this so we can come in at a lower retail price than we are working with now. I will keep you posted.

I am not sure if we can also it probably wont perfectly line up so I dont know what would look better. Having it close or having it going in the opposite direction. Do you by chance have a picture of the stock carbon cover?

Thanks for the update! Any ideas as to what the power gains will be?
On price, Renntech's intake upgrade is like $5k (which made it a total nonstarter for me given the claimed 10 bhp gain) so all of us appreciate attempts to make this mod more affordable.
Renntechs CAI doesn't match AMS's intake IE AMS offering is larger top & bottom.. That's a big dif in potential perf gains, as the actual air volume is far greater w/AMS.. Looks excellent!!

Still doing some testing and refinements but initial gains are about 30whp!
Eric
Ha!! I knew it would utterly destroy Renntechs offering, that doesn't equally widen the bottom etc etc parts of their design.. Way to go AMS that's a huge gain @ rear wheels to boot! Even though these are initial findings, that 30 whp roughly = 40 BHP...
Renntech doesn't EVER list RWHP gains on their site listing products for sale, they show 10+ hp & tq for their inferior design @ $5,000.00 IE that means it's only making 10+ BHP = to roughly 7 whp..
Renntechs final gains are inferior due to they basically just remade the OEM design in CF, they needed to follow thru & widen the bottom parts of the intakes as well, not doing so clearly shows Renn's offering is basically cosmetic & a total ripoff

AMS, yes mandatory you have to match the CF pattern/slant of weave on my interior door panels to the CAI you made lolololol & even if that matches you better NOT forget to match it to my trunk spoiler, & exhaust diffuser that's very important!

Sorry guys, I really need to get on here more. I am on too many boards lol

Thanks.
This was on a 4matic S model that already had our tune and full exhaust. The test was done before and after on this car and it picked up 30whp over the stock airbox setup.

Initially our estimated retail was high...too high honestly. Production costs were through the roof but we have been working on getting that pricing down without sacrificing anything in terms of quality. It is probably still going to be in the $5K ballpark but it will be the full airbox not just the lid and carbon intake tubes AND carbon air intake pipes.
I would love to tell you more than that right now but sadly I just dont have enough information yet from our composites company to get you more.

Besides looks, I dont think the pricy Carbon fiber adds anything performance wise. Could you make a cheaper version with regular black plastic or ABS ?

Was the tuned amended to take into account the air box or this was a straight out gain, if the tune wasn't amended what is the expected gains with an amended tune.
The air box looks amazing but at $5,000 are you anticipating many buyers ?

Sorry, we are only making the CF Version. Making more molds just increases costs.

Yes, we have many people interested. I know its not as cheap as a cold air intake but its a full carbon fiber piece with very impressive performance gains.
