E63 S Wagon 2014
M157 Resonator Delete - What's Up Front?

Specifically on an E63S

Up front of my resonator (removed in the photo) are canisters, shown on the left of the photo.

What are they please - silencers/small cats? My pal has an E63, non S model and he hasn't got them.

Thanks.

They are also small resonators, To be fair small Baffles to lower the noise a bit.
You can remove them as well for a tad louder noise and removing them will make your exhaust pop and crackle.

Correct. Mine are gone too, and I love the way they sound.

Maybe I'll do this also, before the big resonator delete.

I recommend adding an X-pipe for a tad more power and a meaner sound.

2016 E63s Wagon - CCB & CF package
Bringing this one fron the dead!

My 2016 wagon has them too, just noticed tonight. Could it be a wagon thing? I did see that the sedan and wagon part nunber for the catalytic converter portion is in fact different.

Don't do this. Smooths out the tone of the exhaust and no longer sounds like an AMG

+1million

I posted a thread where I tested all 3, straight pipes vs X-pipe vs H-pipe. Long story short, an x-pipe in place of the resonator lost low end tq and was quieter than stock. Small H-pipe in place of the resonator is best.

What about these two little ‘baffles’ in front of the resonator? Do you sedan guys have them? Should i cut them out too?

Straight pipe the whole thing. Keep OEM mufflers in place. Thank me later.

That’s the plan! Just have to find someone who’ll make me nice pipes that will bend to go over that little metal brace. Not even sure what its purpose is...

Hmm... I wonder if the 2014-6 cars do...

Anyone out there that can verify? I’d really appreciate it!

Does no one make a complete "track" exhaust system?

I went under and got the part number off of these two, but i cannot cross reference this any where. I searched on the MB part websites and nothing comes up... A 212 490 12 01. These still remain a mystery as to what they are and what their purpose is...

Just put a good set of down pipes on and not hack up the back section that does not do much for power.

I figured out that the two "cans" are indeed just baffles/resonators. I am waiting for dealer to confirm whether they are only found in wagons or if sedans have them too.

While that would be nice, I don't want to void the engine warranty. Down-pipes require a tune and with a tune, warranty is gone... But once my warranty expires, i am going to go bananas with this car

Yes, leaving the rear mufflers intact keeps drone down to zero but still gives amazing sound. I think I posted a crappy vid in the post I referenced.

I am dying to know where these are from. Would love to see W212 M157 versions of this.

My dealer confirmed that we dont have secondary cats and that the round canisters before the big center resonator are also just resonators. Im now trying to figure out if they are only on wagons or if sedans have them too.

These screenshots are from Wis/Asra. I was browsing the exhaust section and i had input my vin number so the program would show me the files that are 212 chassis m157 related. So my guess is one of them is 212 m157/m278 compatible. My 2016 e63 S sedan does not have them, maybe a wagon only thing?

Confirmed by my dealer after speaking to MBUSA, they are a wagon only thing. Since the trunk space is not isolated like a sedan, they added these for a little less cabin noise.

Hmm , interesting. Seems like a lot of work fro such a minor thing. Wonder if there is a drone issue (different frequency based on additional trunk volume or something)?
Now I'm tempted to remove them only just to try....
