E63 AMG
New Owner
Just closed the deal on a 2011 E63 AMG. I've been on the car hunt for a while now and have really been all over the place on what I wanted. I didn't think I was going to enjoy the E63 as much as I did, but after driving it for a bit and then comparing to the C63 there was a huge different and feel to me. Looking forward to picking her up tomorrow and hanging around here doing research.

You will enjoy it I'm sure. Its not an in town cruiser, but I love the BEAST out on the highway.

Can't wait to see those muscular angular lines of the original design along with the Ponton hindquarter.

Congrats
I take it the headbolts have been taken care of or did not apply to your engine

Peter,
I have heard here and there about the head bolt issue. Also that it is related to time of year car was built.
Mine is 11/10. But car was first purchased in June 2011. So I am under factory warranty for 1 more month. I am having a new command control knob installed on Monday (rotary action died). Will the dealer be able to tell me if my car is subject to this issue? I would hope I dont have to wait until failure to get action.
Then again, perhaps the bolts were already replaced by original owner under warranty.
Anyway, any solid info is always appreciated.
Thanks Man!

First of all, congrats to OP! I just picked up my 2011 E63 about a month ago. You will love it!

Excellent question and yes the dealer will be able to tell you if your engine is effected ... Also I don't think they will replace them but I am not sure

I just went through the thread you provided. It looks like my exposure here is minimal to none. It looks like my build date is well after they solved it. I could take a valve cover off to look at the bolt heads as they are visibly clearly different. But not gonna risk an oil leak!
It looks like even the cars subject to this issue have a fairly low failure rate.
This combined with my extended bumper-to-bumber 72mo 75k miles warranty puts me at ease.
I am already thinking about my third AMG in 2020. Likely do the same thing again: buy a 3+ year old one with some warranty still left. After buying my 2000 E55 spanking new, I see a real cost effectiveness in going used while still in warranty!
So I will be looking closely at the 2016 or 2017 versions as these will likely be my options for AMG #3 !!!

Anyway, there was some ****ty weather on the horizon as I was picking her up so I just drove her home and put her in the garage. I can't want to get her out for some better pics and to really take her for a cruise!

Gorgeous!! Is it pano or regular sunroof? With those 18", no worry about most potholes.
Well, it will depend on your relationship with your MB dealer for them to take care of the head bolts if they fail. From what I have read on this matter, my advise is not to own it without a warranty unless you have really deep pocket.
Now go out there and have fun.

Other than that, the extended bumper to bumper warranty is just under 5K for 3 more years from my CPO (essentially carrying it until 2019). Do you guys think there would be 5k worth of Ut Ohhs within that time. Keep in mind this will probably be a 5-10k miles a year car tops.

Regular sunroof is superior to pano.... Enjoy the quiet problem free roof

When I bought my CPO, I asked to see the full service record. My dealer blocked out the previous owner's personal data and show exactly what has been done to my car since it was first bought. The dealer would not allow me to keep that record, but at lease I got to see its service history.
Best of luck.

It is only suprior if you have pano creaks or noises and you are out of warranty. If you get the bolts re-torqued it is fairly nice.
Certainly not a must have. But nice.
Bonus is less surface area to wax !!! Lol
Cheers.

Can't deny it's lower center of gravity with the regular sunroof. In some countries, you can also get an E63 with full metal roof.

To 2019?! Is that another 3 years of factory warranty on top of the 1 year CPO warranty? Does MB now have factory warranty to take total warranty up to 8 years from the placed-in-service date? When is your car's in-service date?
