New E63S software
This is interesting.
Yesterday, I was pushing the car hard and got a CEL. Felt like it was running on 7 cylinders. Stopped, reset the car. CEL went off. Did another pull, CEL went on again, 7 cylinders. Reset the car. CEL stayed on this time.
Took the car to the dealer. They scanned and said it was a misfire. Updated the ECU. With car wash, in and out in an hour.
Car is different. Shifts are faster. Idle speed changes depending on what transmission mode you are in. M mode raises the idle. Even in Park.

I got a software update about three months ago on the recommendation of many members on this forum. This improved the shift quality though I will have to check what happens in manual mode to the idle.
Had you not previously gotten that transmission software update?

Nope. They wouldn't do it. I am scheduled on the 20th at another dealer. It wasn't transmission software, it was engine. I still have hard shifts into 3rd going up or down.

Will they only do that software update for the engine if you have that check engine light issue? Or can I just requested because it is new and it is out for this vehicle?

When I aggressively stop or slow down in S or S plus mode, I get a hard shift downshifting into third gear. I never have hard shifting when the car is upshifting during acceleration of any type. In eco-mode, also known as comfort, I always have smooth shifts

The car also shift farts part throttle in Manual mode.
Wonder if the 2016 guys got this software.

What my dealer told me is they will not do any updates unless there is a problem as the update can create issues. I was hopeful of getting faster shifts on my 2012. I think maybe at some point a tune is in my future for a better driving car experience.

Did a quick test drive of a 2016 and I did notice that in Sport mode (or whatever they call it) it did these little burb sounds as you slowed the vehicle and it downshifted. I thought it sounded pretty cool.
This was my first test drive of an E63 so I have no idea how it may or may not be different from the 2015 or prior years.

I live for the double clutch sound in S and S+! I'm sorry that my driveway is not long enough to get two shifts in, so to remind my wife that this is not an Sclass sedan. My car bucks like a bronco when I start out in S or S+ and suspension on AMG and when I have to back off due to traffic. In comfort, no issue.
On software, I have a continuing problem with keyless system. They have reprogrammed the locking system but it still did it intermittently, most recently denying me the foot waving function on the tailgate. Last week they did some software upgrade that now has a slightly different screen on telephone mode. No locking problems so far.
