Happy To Report AMS Turbo Baby
Quote: So been debating about turbo upgrades. I choose to abandoned Renntech and went with a full AMS Alpha 9 package. Not a AWD, but is it faster than a Renntech ECU tune. Yesssss.

The car pictured in this video is rearwheel drive only. It's a pre facelift model. The current ones have all-wheel-drive and should expect faster times.

I have two friends who have done a full Weistec turbo upgrade, with the cooling upgrade, once trunk tank, turbo pipes, mid pipes and down pipes. From a roll those cars are basically indestructible and beat the crap out of just about anything else on the road. Their power from roll is astonishing

5.5TT AWD with tune and street tires runs 10's all days. 5.5TT RWD with tune and drag slicks is also 10 seconds.

David have you tried running with drag slicks or semi-slicks? That should push you much deeper into the 10's.

Yes, but a few more players in the game may change that

You're hopefully right and as soon as I find the right one I'll be joining you. No way I'm settling to only run as good as my 1st E55 did half a decade ago!!!

Thanks sdg. How did your baby do at the race. Remember you where just at one?

Yes, with the turbo upgrade. I find myself blasting through the gears from rolling starts at speeds I didn't think was possible.

It really was how our E63 was meant to do. So much more fun now.

Thanks, but I only street race once in a while when the family is not in the car. Slicks is not an option for me. Honest I'm not trying bet every car that comes at it. It's just nice to know I have the power on tap. Lol.

Listen. You been on this forum for decades and have done nothing to your E63 that we are we've heard. Let's hear some contribution before you talk. You want to see my car, make an appointment and let's see if my secretary will schedule you in. Why do you even care dude.

^^ touchy.....
I didn't interpret anything malicious in the quoted post.
It would be interesting to see dyno numbers, pointless unless before and after IMO.
Understandable curiosity as to how the upgrade was done, and even an excited query as to whether you got the 'sick' CF air box etc.

I wasn't even going to dignify you with a reply, but there is nothing like talking to a idiot that makes fun of himself in front of his peers on this forum.

Did I send my car to AMS in West Chicago or did AMS come to me in Los Angeles. If something went wrong with your E63 or you wanted to upgrade some Mercedes option, do you send you Mercedes to Germany or does Mercedes from Germany come to you Vdubpower? Is this question too funny to anyone reading this thread or is it just me. Okay. Let me teach you something that you obviously do not know or have clues to. Let's just say your interested in a turbo upgrade which your not because all you seem to do is just admiring other members upgrading their AMGs. Ok, what do you do in that situation ( when the car is in Los Angeles and AMS HQ is in Chicago ?), hum. I think I will ask AMS who their dealers are here in SoCal and what do you know. I counted 7 AMS dealers near my zip code. Okay, your next question will most likely be. Hum, how can I get the names and addresses of those dealers in SoCal ( this is a freebie for you vdubpower ), go on AMS website and click on dealer and enter your zip code and their is your list of dealer contacts.

Did I take photos of the AMS turbos, no. Why would I, they look exactly like what is on AMS Alpha 9 turbos website. No carbon fiber air box for me and no dyno for me. That is like asking a E63 owner did you dyno your stock AMG? If no, why waste the money and time to dyno something AMS already did. I don't track it and just love being pulled up on with the other guy thinking he can win this race and I just hit the peddle. The rest is history in my books. This just goes to show, your never ever too old to learn. Class dismiss.

And what data did that yield you that AMG or Mercedes wasn't already advertising. What came out of that dyno that shocked you vdubpower?

Do you think this platform should require a $10k turbo kit to run 10s? If so, then I guess I am complaining because mid-high 10s should be possible without it.

$10k could get you a fox-body mustang and mods for 10s

like it was said earlier - the E's are a pretty big (heavy) car - if you pull the fancy bits out it would easily do 10s - that sound deadening material gets pretty heavy

we're talking 4400lbs, add 150 for the driver (not me LOL) - and you're looking at about 675WHP to get to the 10s

OP, what prompted you to go with the Alpha set up over the Renntech? I looked on Alpha's website for the 550's & they're putting out higher numbers than anyone else; 575HP/660TQ.

There is a couple of reasons really. I got a friend who has a full AMS GTR tuned and really like the go fast off the line feeling even though my is a E63. Second, my original Renntech with just the ECU tune was producing 680hp while AMS was getting 700hp. Third, I like the ideal of switching over to AMS with their full Alpha 9 package.

I wanted more horsepower and when I compared between Renntech and AMS, AMS seems to have more hp as does the performance data between the two companies. I love the Renntech ECU tune, but just wanted more horsepower so I went with AMS. Hope this helps. Good luck.

You went through all that for 20hp?

Lol. I upgraded to the Alpha 9, not Alpha 7. I hope with the Alpha 9 turbo upgrade doesn't just produce 20hp.

Yea, the numbers between AMS & the Renntech & Eurocharged tunes are 45HP & 60TQ. AMS' dealer network in the Houston area isn't that strong tho.
