Power may not be an issue "stock for stock" but the power potential out of 5.5L vs 4.0L is tremendous. MB seems to do this every few years. They went from the fantastic 5.5L Supercharged engine to the 6.3L NA which was B O R I N G compared with its force fed variant. Now the tree huggers has MB by the short and curlies leaving them no choice but to make eeenie weenie gas sipping eco rigs. I'll ditch my E63 for a Caddy CTS-V when the time comes.

and the M157 sound doesn't hold a candle to the M113K (bring on the torches and pitchforks)

I dunno, the 4L c63 with the three electric baffles in it make it sound pretty gnarly. I'm basing this entirely on the review done by chris harris. I think it sounds better/louder than the 5.5L in my wagon which I find to be pretty toned down.

Nothing holds a torch to the old M156 engine. I had a sl63 with one and my god did it sound amazing with the top down going wide open throttle.

I'm interested in the self parking features of the w213 and am curious to find out what other goodies it holds, and how the body looks without the zebra tape.

Yeah the m156 was epic sounding, I don't like the new 4.0 have had it up next to my car side by side both stock and my m157 sounded better than the c63s that some random guy at the dealer showed me.

Also from what Ive read the self parking will not be for the North American market.

From what I read the Remote parking pilot is only going to be available in Europe and not USA.

FF. W212 E63 M156 non-pano 18" P2 ParkT NightV (gone but will be missed).
Nothing beats the sound of a large displacement NA engine. What MB should have done back then was to fix those few little internal problems of the M156 and put on superchargers. Then you would be looking at Weistec hp/tq with amazing sound.

I do like the idea of a bigger displacement motor no doubt, like the saying goes there is no replacement for displacement, but it is what is. I'm still toying with the idea of snagging a used '14 up as a replacement for my 2012, oh hell, maybe just keep them both and replace my TDI VW with the New one, lol...Gas is cheap enough now so who cares

On the other hand, I'm toying with either trading in for a late 2011 (call my crazy) without the headbolts problem because I just can't get over the M156's sound and response but I worry about other M156 problems like the tappet and cam adjuster/lifter issues; or trading in for a 2013 because I like the simplicity of RWD and I'm still not sold on the appearance of the facelift plus I'm not excited about the upcoming 2017's bulbous and matryoshka design but I do worry about M157's turbo's eventual failure. Difficult choice.

Good points, I've thought about the AWD adding complexity, but from what I understand it is very well engineered and tough plus you only have 30 percent of the engines torque going to the front end. I probably should test drive a 2014 up at some point and compare it to my 2012. I do really like my 2012 and have kept up on all maintainence with the car so it could end up a long term keeper. The problem I've found with doing a trade is you get horrible value on the trade in, like around around ten grand than what you'd expect, then if you sell it outright which is tough for a AMG you loose (at least in my state) the tax advantage of deducting your trade in from the new car purchase.

Lazy? I think it's a lot easier to get in the car and go than to have to twiddle it out of the garage on a phone toy.

Looked to me like it was more for small garages.

There are tons of "1 car" garages that, yeah, you could MAYBE fit a car in, but you'd have to crawl out the driver's window.

Self parking will be useful to me when I can tell one of the cars stacked in my driveway / garage to "meet me out front in 15 minutes" and let that car talk to the other cars and THEY figure out how to back out, slot around, juggle, and do whatever... so the car I want is ready and waiting for me. Now THAT'S a Mercedes worthy feature.

My point is that this is just the latest progression in driver assistance. With each iteration, drivers get lazier and lazier and require less skill to operate a motor vehicle.

I get it, in the future we actually won't need to have skills to drive, as cars will basically take care of everything and tie shoelaces as well... I don't know about you, but I plan to go kicking and screaming into the night so this skill degradation doesn't happen to me

I agree, I agree. But having the car deal with parking and leave the driving to me seems a pretty fair bargain ;-)

Mercedes
self parking is a killer feature if you live in a cramp city garage (or even worse, you have a car lift). My only complaint is using the lame phone app to do the parking. If they added apple watch support, that would help a lot (but then you gotta have an apple watch...)

Just a warning to those new to self-parking. Beware of the car curbing your wheels. We had the active park curb one of my wife's wheels several months ago, and I've intervened a couple other times when things looked a little too close for comfort in my car.

Good point. While I was testing this out, it helps to be further away from the curb so the car doesn't come in with as much angle. Of course, having the skill to gauge where you are relative to the curb negates the need to have such a feature...
