ML63 vs AWD E63
they seem pretty comparable - given the big difference of one being a sedan vs an SUV
the E63 seems to get way more visibility onsite - what's up with the ML63 crew? just a different genre?
AWD 600+ HP with a tune for either

There are more ML63 where I live than E63. I took the E63 in wagon format - cause a 577hp station wagon is totally practical and necessary .

1000 lbs more weight for the ML makes a ton of difference on power delivery ! (actually half a ton)

most of the people that buy ML's arent really tuner types of people... they are people with money that just want the most expensive midsize suv they can get
e63 guys are more tuner minded
plus like others said, ML's are quite a bit heavier so the buyer of that isnt really buying it for street racing lol

i counted 50 e63s on drag times vs 3 ml63s so that would give you a ratio of 16.67 to 1....
soooooooo, e63 guys are 16.67 times more likely to get their car for racing/ going fast
so let say guesstimate 25% of e63 guys buy their car for hard/fast driving, then 1/16.67 x 25% = 1.5% of ML63 guys buy theirs for the same reason.... reason why there isnt as much of a ML presence as you originally asked
kinda makes sense... lol

there are more e63 drivers that take their car to the strip than ML drivers... check dragtimes... that would give you a rough mathematical ratio of e63 drivers that are willing to engage in tuning/ street racing vs ML drivers that are willing..

The few people in my hood that have ml63 or gl63 are women drivers and not saying they can't be as enthusiastic about amg and speed but they just aren't coming on here as much as the guys are to talk shop

I got a S65, GL63 and E63.
S65 is for business, GL63 is for road trips and E63 is a racing ( the bring out the kid in me ). The purpose of my GL63 is that it has more power and luxury than the standard SUV and by no means would I try to race someone in either a sport sedan or SUV. It just wasn't built that way IMO.

I luv my Renntech tuned ML63...with 650 hp I get great performance in a quiet luxurious and sporty daily driver that also performs well in winter ...and when I need to really get it on I take the ZR1...would never trade the ML for a car tho

I had 2 ML63's for daily and then went to my 63 Wagon
I loved the ML63's but really love my wagon . Holds as much kids sports gear and race tires as the Ml but kicks butt on the street. Handles and brakes better then any wagon should. Sounds amazing and I get more people loving the car then I can ever imagine.

ML63: front-engine, 4-wheel-drive, 5-passenger, 5-door wagon
E63: front-engine, 4-wheel-drive, 5-passenger, 5-door wagon (or sedan)
ML63 and E63:
Power: 550 hp @ 5750 rpm & Torque: 560 lb-ft @ 2000 rpm
TRANSMISSION: 7-speed automatic with manual shifting mode
ML63 DIMENSIONS:
Wheelbase: 114.8 in
Length: 189.1 in
Width: 84.3 in Height: 70.7 in
Curb weight: 5285 lb
E63 DIMENSIONS:
Wheelbase: 113.2 in
Length: 193.4 in
Width: 76.4 in Height: 59.9 in
Curb weight: 4733 lb
Performance ML63:
Zero to 60 mph: 4.2 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 12.6 sec @ 113 mph
Braking, 70-0 mph: 164 ft
Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad*: 0.88 g
Performance E63:
Zero to 60 mph: 3.4 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 11.7 sec @ 122 mph
Braking, 70-0 mph: 153 ft
Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 0.97 g
sure they're not "identical" but for a sport UTE - the ML63 is pretty nifty albeit with a 552 pound penalty

I wonder weight for weight which would win? i.e. put 552 extra pounds in the E63 and comparably weighted drivers...
obviously the E would win in a slalom due to center of gravity - but that straight line...

I think the ml63 has a little less power and produces more drag thanks to its SUV shape, also isn't it a 40/60 power split? All these I would think would fare poorly for the ml

By all means, I am not a science guy, but if the same exact car/SUV with the same driver, doesn't the car/SUV with lower deficiency win no matter on cornering and stright away?
