I think there's room for improvement in implementations, but lawsuits? Really?

What did people do before cars required keys?

I knew this would be an issue someday. Manufacturers should definitely have made it to where the vehicle shuts off after the fob is so many feet away from the vehicle or implemented another safety alternative such as an electronic timeout when it senses inactivity.

We all understand stupidity and personal forgetfulness; however, engineers must design things with these ideas in mind. Just like how a microwave manual must state that live animals cannot be placed inside while in operation. You would assume people would know better, but no.

Keyless entry is a transition into a more futuristic era of vehicular transformations; however, the keyword here is transition. It has not quite become accustomed to baby boomers and generation X as it will be to millienials in the next 10-20 years.

That is my take on this topic.

solution 1) put catless downpipes on so you can actually hear the damn thing run
solution 2) grow a brain and be present
solution 3) cull the weak from the herd.

There's probably more people out there dying from regular key start cars that accidentally forgot to turn the car off while on the cell phone or something ... But that's not a sexy headline ... Push button start cars are more appealing for a story

I do agree with the above that they should engineer a proximity based or time based shut off unless you perform an action sequence in the car to force it to stay running when you leave the car.

What I want is a class action for the inner thigh abrasion from having the fob wedged in their for hours on end. I we got rid of the key, then why do I even need a FOB? Why not just use prox cards, say microSD sized that I can just keep in my wallet?

Then I could have the keys to 3 or 4 cards in my pocket and not get a crippling injury from sitting on the pile of fobs all day.

Someone call me a lawyer. I think I can work this into a disability claim at work too.

I think the lawsuit is a bit frivolous. This happened before keyless-go as well.

However (having lost a relative to suicide this way), I think that cars should be safer in this respect. So here is my fix.

1. Install a CO monitor to determine the concentration of CO.
2. If the concentration of CO gets too high and and the car has been stationary (eg. in park or not moving for a designated period of time) it shuts off automatically.

I figure this should add no more than $40 to the cost of a car and prevent accidental and intentional CO poisoning.

I think some kind of electronic shut off should be implemented to the keyless go function. Are there different scenarios that a shut off are needed and where they are not? Yes of course there are. You see people's car get car jacked while a baby was in the car. On the way out the door while your car has started and the wife or kid call you to help them with something and in the middle of it, you remember your car was sitting in the garage or worst yet sitting in your driveway idling for the pass 10 mints. etc.

You don't want your car the turn itself off when the key fob is away because the wife and kid is waiting for you in the car on a hot day while your running to the store to pick up milk.

I think CO monitoring is more practical weather your passenger or just while it sits idling with no one in the car. Once the CO gets to dangerous levels, it turns itself off or better yet, open the window and sunroof.

I would rather waste a tank of gas the get hurt from CO poisoning.
