Angry Is it just bad luck or MB cars are full of defects

I have quite a few high performance cars, prima donnas and other German.

I thought that my Italians were finicky. This is my first MB, but this 2015 E63 sAMG with less than 3K miles has been at the dealer over 6 times now! Rattles, buggy software, keyless entry not working, not oil temp not working, engine ticking, vibration on the rear when accelerating, lag, and the list goes on and on!

I have to drop her AGAIN at the dealer, are all MB AMGs like this?

If this was a one of my Porsches or Audis I would have filed for a lemon by now. Hell my Audi/Porsche dealer would have swapped the car by now.

Love the car, when I have it and I do not want to ride it like I would expect to ride a 500+hp car.

Is this normal for an $130k-140K AMG?

Sorry to hear about the trouble
This is not normal for Daimler cars, even regular E,C class I owned have been more reliable than M5/M3 from BMW

Hope your dealership can root cause and fix the car

Do I hear trolling. That don't sound like any Mercedes I know with those issues. Especially for such a new car. Out of all German cars merdeces is the most reliable. To think of it those are common issues with Audi especially. I have 3 friends with Audi that had a lot of those issues you noted. Mercedes E class are solid cars.

to be fair, they are quite unreliable. I've had nothing but trouble with benz always but love them to much to not buy them haha

Some of the things you list are not problems but characteristics of how it drives

- lag
- mct vibrations on accel

Some are software issues, I haven't had but others have
- keyfob function

The rest are problems with your car that I haven't had

I have had the keyless problem, and after two tries by dealer it is fixed. Recently my rear window wiper froze (after a B service) at 21,000 miles. The motor apparently overheated and fused with the arm. Required total replacement, on warranty.
Recent posts have suggested problems with the COMMAND navigation volume. On my wagon the voice was lower than the audio, and I raised the question with the dealer at the above warranty action. They did a software upgrade, but noted that the volume issue was one of adjustment by me. You can modulate the voice by adjusting the volume when the voice is working, which we have done successfully.
I am really not happy with the manual, either paper or CD. But that's life!

- Vibration on acceleration is normal from a stop.
- these engines are loud up front(maybe that's the ticking you hear) - normal
- oil temp - depending on where you live it takes the oil a longgggggg time to warm up. Of does yours not even show up?

I'm seriously thinking about trading a GL63 for a 2016 M6 Covertible. The only think I was sad to hear was that the M6 didn't have a electronic funk closer like our AMG or is the sales new and didn't know how the M6 works?

Can you please elaborate why your M6 was at the dealer so much? What year M6 is it? Anything to look out for when buying a M6 that I should know about?

Many thanks.

Would you mind elaborating if it was engine, transmission, electronics?

I came from the BMW family ( M3 and M4s ) and other than the normal wear and tear, it was good to me as my Mercedes are. My AMGs has not been to the dealer other than scheduled maintenance and software upgrades, had the headlights replaced.

All of the above: there were so many recalls, the final drop that overflowed the glass was violent start: SMG would do it about once a month. When starting at the light, or stop sign, it felt like somebody hit me from behind. A month at dealer and they could not reproduce, MBNA would not authorize SMG work and that was it. And I was not happy about the lack of torque compared to my E39 M5: E60 was dead horse up to about 4K rpm. E39 was pulling nicely at 1k rpm.
Long story short: after buying 18 BMWs over the 25 years this was awake up call and am glad I switched to much better car. Happy with my E63 and my wife loves her C300....

a few remarks on my recent experience with MB and other makes that may be of interest.
a good friend bought a new c 400 and experienced multiple quality control issues from the start: de-laminating rear quarter windows, stereo problems, brake issues, etc. he had to point these out to dealer though they should have been apparent from before car left factory and certainly obvious to dealer. a fine car, BUT....
I recently went from an S63 to a RS7 audi. my 63 was superb. I note though that the RS7 is quieter inside than the 63 and is much more enjoyable to drive; too new to have meaningful feedback on quality issues, though initial impression is of very high quality, but a distinct and different personality from my various MB's. have had several E63's and they were utterly reliable.
will be interesting to compare new E63, new M5, and not long thereafter new Audi 7.

I've not had issues with either my SLK or E63. Depending on the severity of the symptoms you described, not sure that some level of vibration or noise wouldn't be expected with all cars. I'm also assuming you've read the manual because there are a lot of features in the E class that are not always expected or intuitive to use.

the jury is still out on the w212, but the w211 i had was at the dealership quite often: broken dynamic seat pump, fuel tank issue, fuel pump issue, various mounts going bad prematurely, new supercharger, etc etc.

not a "reliable" car by any definition of the word. I mean the W124s were tanks compared to the new cars.

knock on wood with this new one.

Here is my trolling ding dong...driving @ 50MPH and this, all systems down the only thing on my accelerator, lights and shifting the Main AMG mechanic took this shot... then we stop, try to start the engine with physical key an nothing. then on the fourth time everything on...
Trolling right...?

Thanks but you are starting to sound like my BMW motorcycle mechanic

I do not experience any of this vibration on any of my other cars, all of them 500HP+why would it be normal in this?

The ticking is on the top end of the engine and does it even when idling, hot or cold. Just like a valve ticking.

The oil temp never gets displayed, and now not only the keys do not get recognized despite changing the batteries, but if I get lucky and the engine starts (with the physical key forget the push to start that never works) most of the time most of the systems will shutdown, tachometer, speedometer, radio, lights, cruise control and left and right signals, oddly enough the temperature and gas gauge stay on. I can break, accelerate and change gears.

All this happen 2 times with the main AMG mechanic, and you can guess. No faults to be read from the computer! He even took pictures. which I have attached on a previous post in the thread. Instead of giving me a loaner they sent me home as they were booked for 3 weeks! I call the other dealers in the area and they are booked...go figure I was mad and did not think about taking a 83 mile taxi ride and leave the car at the dealership.

This was supposed to me DD car just from home to work, maybe to the mountains on the weekends to Xcounty... but now sits outside waiting for an appointment at the dealer on Monday....and it hurts me to have a $130k-140k car sitting because I can't drive it!

I am not trolling like some people would like to believe, I have the fortune of been able to buy pretty exclusive cars fro most of my life but never an MB as a lot of my family works for 2 of the other German manufacturers and 2 or 3 fro one Italian, so I was/am truly looking for answers not for uncalled lack of fellowship.

I want to love this car, like i said I love wagons and RS6 was a dream but US Government/Customs or whatever agency did not allowed me to bring it to the US

With these additional details, you have definitely have some unusual problems. Regarding the Keyless Go, did they verify that it was not a bad key? In the past, I had one of my keys go bad and the car would start fine with the spare. It was intermittent before it finally gave out completely.
