Respected E63 member. I have taken the high road and the said dealer will pay me $5,000 cash and then some. This shows don't bend over for anyone.
David. Glad you are ok.
Please save yourself the time and energy, and do not sue MB. You will look back on this thread, months down the line, thousands of dollars later, and wished you had listened. Spend time with your family and enjoy life.
I cannot believe a dealership would tell a customer F off after an event like that. Like others have posted, I think there is something missing to this story.... I get that they've pissed you off, but they seem really pissed off too.
Go to a high end wheel shop, buy a few 14x1.5 cone seat 28mm bolts, torque them and the rest down, get your car out of there.

2014 E63S; AMS 100 octane ecu tune; edok tcu tune; BB intakes; dyno tuned
Ultimately if they didn't truly do a good job and torque down those rims them they should be held accountable as I would be held accountable for doing a bad job in my profession
Glad you got this squared away David
What does the $5000+ cover? How much were the damages?

I tell people all the damn time to please never use spacers, just purchase wheels with a better offset or at least the correct offset for the desired results. (I say that now because i read somewhere among these three pages spacers were mentioned)
Good thing nothing serious or life threatening came of this but i am also curious as to what PeterUbers asked about what does the 5k cover?
And try to look on the bright side of this after things calm down, it could have been worse.

you'd think vossens are expensive enough that you'd want them to come in the "correct offset". but... everyone's situation is different.
what I learned from this thread:
1) don't use spacers
2) double check torque on lugnuts
3) there are very good wheel refinishers in LA area that is fraction of the dealership
4) bark at the dealership until you get $$$$.$$
anything else?

Personally, I would avoid any spacers on the wheels. I have read postings from an engineering point of view that having spacers just put additional stress on the wheels. It's safe to say all car manufacturers recommend against spacers. I would avoid fooling around with something that rotate at tremendous rpm and carry the weight of 2+ tons at speed 180mph+ our cars are capable of...moreover with the power from your AMS. Same reasoning leads me to get the torque wrench for the wheel lugs from Craftsman, whereas other tools are fine to come from Harbor Freight.
Hey, it's Wednesday already. You better get your car out of there.
Indeed strange laws, because most medical malpractice lawsuits are due to neglecting to do something, rather than doing something. Double-standard laws that are aimed to take down medical professionals.

Hey Peter. They are ordering, replacing my hub, brake and spring. I should get my E63 back next Monday.
The $5k will cover me to get the correct offset HRE wheels without the use of spacer. Sure I need to pay money out of pocket, but doing happily.

Master mechanic here,
You managed to travel 380 miles straight from the dealership and now pointing fingers? Your wheel would of come off within 5 miles if lugs did not get torqued form b service, anynumber of senarios could of played out in 380 miles?

I welcome your thoughts. If I was driving a Honda, I would expect less.
Was I mad, sure. Was I a dick. No. Can a dealer tell a customer f off No matter what was said. Mercedes is about customer service, no?

No offense but if you want real feedback, here it is. You are probably a total pain of a Customer, given much of what Ive seen you post here. Look, we all can be unreasonable as Customers, it happens, but there MUST be more to the story here. Many of us have had disagreements with the dealer, cant think of anyone who has been asked to never go back to the dealership. Much of what you post is arrogant, entitled, and full of bragging. Maybe you have come off wrong to them, and they dont want to deal with you? Again, I dont proclaim to know you, you're looking for help, I'm just telling you what I see.
On the legal front - you modified the car with wheels that were not factory. If the lugnuts dont "seat" properly and come off, thats not MB's fault, its yours. Im no lawyer but I dont see you having a case here...and if you do, its a frivolous one.

This thread and whole situation is disgusting. Honestly man, calling like I see it. Hope you're happy with your "$5k." If that actually happened, you basically robbed the dealerships owners. You modified your car improperly, they serviced it, despite breaking their rules to do so (they have every right to deny you service on your aftermarket parts, but they didn't). Because you cheaped out on your parts, the inevitable happened, and you are blaming the dealer for it.
Here's what I learned from this thread. Today at some dealership in SoCal:
- A service advisor is getting yelled at for bending the rules to service your car
- A tech is getting admonished for touching a car with aftermarket parts
- A dealership owner probably chewed out a whole lot more folks, and cut you a check for $5k so you'll go away
- You walked away with a smile on your face because you were satisfied, despite robbing a dealer and probably ruining the day/week/life of someone who works hard for their money and really, all they were trying to do was make you happy despite putting their job at risk to do so
Hope you're happy. Sad thing is, you are, probably oblivious/in denial re the above. The truth hurts.
Luckily for the rest of us there is enough positive karma in the world to right your wrongs.
Enjoy man.

Why would it matter less if you were driving a Honda? Are the lives of people who drive Hondas less valuable than yours? A bit elitist, eh? Just because you drive a Mercedes, it doesn't give you any right to belittle anyone else, which is what I exactly suspect you did to the service department staff.

I've always gotten the feeling at MB of "this is what we're offering/doing, take it or leave it", versus, "the best or nothing". In which this case is nothing.....
but I do agree with your sentiment here....although I don't think David meant it that way

My post was a simple and straightforward. If you went to service and it could of killed you and your family. They took my car for the service and now I am the person that is wrong because I modify my car? I don't think you know what you are talking about.

Am I happy with the outcome. No. If it was you and your family, you would walk way and say thank you? Please make a point for us.
