Is everyone with this problem using Mobil 1? I've switched my personal vehicles to Liqui Moly 5w40 and consumption has been way down.

Any brand of oil that meets MB 229.5 will have next to nothing to do with oil consumption. Other than slight variations in NOACK, they will all perform very similarly. Oil consumption differences between individual M157's will be affected primarily by how well the rings seated during the engine's the break-in and how aggressively the car is driven. Ironically, those owners who are very careful and gentle during the first thousand miles will usually experience the most oil consumption and will also have a car that produces HP at the low end of the range for the same engine family. I have always utilized a relatively aggressive break-in procedure on my vehicles and have consistently experienced low to no oil consumption between oil changes despite the fact that I drive very aggressively almost all of the time. Also, if you happened to have purchased a new car that had previously been test driven once or twice and the test driver drove the car really hard with a few full throttle applications, consider yourself lucky. You bought a car that will likely have good ring seal. The details of this why this break-in procedure works so well is best explained by the following link:

http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

I did not follow the recommendation to not use synthetic for break-in on my E63 because it was logistically unfeasible. For the same reason, I did my first oil change at around 1500 miles, not 20-30. However, I have done all of those items on all of my other vehicles, especially my motorcycles, one of which redlines at 12000 RPM. I change my own oil on my E63 every 5000 miles. It uses less than half a quart in that time, and I drive very hard and very fast almost all of the time.

I thought the same until I switched. I own a shop and we go thru about 80-100 liters a week of Liqui Moly with almost no consumption complaints since switching. BMW has alot of consumption issues which is why I initially tried the Liqui Moly. I've been very pleased with it

I was curious of the exact same thing. I used to run M1 in several different vehicles with different engines and different weights and mileages. ALL of a sudden probably in the 09-10 time frame they all started eating oil. talked to some friends, same thing. I have since switched to other brands, and miraculously oil consumption stopped immediately. my daily beater, an 06 lincoln ls, now has 184k on it, and in 10k oil change intervals, I add 1.5 qt.

I swear M1 evaporates if it's not in its original bottle. I'm really not impressed, at all with that product, when friggin Walmart synthetic has been kicking is *** for the last 130k miles in that car. and I have oil analysis to prove it.

I was curious if RP made oil for the 5.5 63, but I wouldn't be upset with liqui-moly either.

I have a CLS 63 AMG 2012 NON PP

I have had 6 Quarts from 13,000 Miles to 18,668 Miles (During Period: July-November 2016).

After speaking to other AMG M157 owners they had 1 Quarts after doing 15,000 miles!!

Taking my vehicle to dealer soon to check for any oil leaks.

Update: Took it to Mercedes Benz Brooklands AMG Center in the UK today, rigorous testing done, no leaks, no issues.
Oil consumption varies from driving conditions, styles etc.

I was using initially AMG performance oil. Each 90-1k km I add 1l of oil.
then I tried 229.5 5w-40 Mercedes oil= sams consumption.
now I am on petronas AMG oil. Add 1l in middle of oil change interval.
i change oil every 5k km.

Liqui Moly is a German brand motor oil. They make a large variety of oils and gear oils. I've used their gear oil once so I can't really say anything about it.
As for the consumption on our 2014 E63 T 4 matic, 1/2 quart for 5k miles.
Engine was originally broken in by MB dealer. I'm the 2nd owner at now 26k miles.

8500 miles on it at the moment and I got service A done around 7500 miles and I burned 1 QT around 5K.

That's better than my old X5M - 1 qt 500 miles after my 1200 break-in service oil change, then another 1qt 1500 miles later.

Interesting I do this on my bikes too...never an issue with oil consumption.
