First road trip

We just got back from a road trip to Northern Illinois, 2500 miles. Was my 50th high school reunion. Saw some old friends and relatives. Enjoyed every minute of the trip. The wagon was a pleasure to drive. Now I know why they are called touring cars in Europe. Super comfortable and performed flawlessly. I even got used to the navigation system. The power was an absolute ball,so much fun passing other cars and trucks. Now have to do a complete detail to get ready for cars and coffee on Saturday morning.

Nice! Just clayed the car and applied paste wax... Smooth as glass ...

Started my detail process. Last evening washed and vacuumed. Then shampooed the floor mats. Today took all the clear bra off. Used a hair dryer and it came off easy. Then used 91% alcohol to get the glue off. Then clayed the whole car. Got out the orbital with a orange pad and polished the whole car with Griot's correcting polish. Tomorrow will try out Griot's new poly wax. Will use the orbital with a red pad. Thank goodness that the garage is air conditioned. It was over 90 today but a comfortable 75 in the garage.

Griot's correcting polish is great stuff. I got a Griot's Garage 6" orbital a couple months ago and if anyone's still polishing and waxing by hand, buy a machine. If you want to try IMO, the best wax/sealant, try Wolfgang's Deep Gloss Paint Sealant, amazing stuff.

^I'm planning on doing a full detail soon. Looking forward to trying the Wolfgang deep gloss paint sealant for the first time.

Sounds like you had a great time!

I took my kids on a 5000 mile road trip and had a blast! I drove from Chicago-Dallas-Las Vegas-Denver-Chicago.

Eddie K,
We stayed by you at the Opryland hotel. What a great place. Very nice people at the hotel, and that atrium WOW. Only bummer was hearing about the Blue Angel going Down in your town. The are based at NAS JAX. So we see them quite often here in Jacksonville.

Another day in the garage. Used the orbital and a black pad with Griot's new poly wax. The new wax is really nice to use, no dust when polishing it off. I think the shine is at least as good as their best of show wax. I'm really happy with the way the car came out. Two and a half of cleaning, polishing. All of the clear bra removed. That stuff does protect the paint but it doesn't look nice, so it had to go. A lot of work but worth it.

Nice work on the car! You can see the mirror like finish. Are you also using the Griot's Garage 6" orbital?

Yes a 6" orbital that my kids bought for me a few years ago. After the wax sets for a few days will give it a second coat of wax. Then will use a Meguiar's gold class quick detailed for black cars. Bill Warner gave me a bottle of this last year. The first time I used it on our SL55 it got best of show at TPC Sawgrass. On my lighter colored cars I use Griot's Speed Shine, but if you have a dark colored car give the Meguiar's a try it is fantastic.

Living in the Jacksonville area do you attend the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance Cars and Coffe? Great event 2d weekend in March each year.

Yes I do attend the Amelia Concours. I have volunteered as a class host there for three years now. Also have had a car invited to Cars and Coffee at the Concourse for the last four years. The Cars and Coffee at the Concours is on Saturday and is free to attend for spectators. Most of the manufacturers displays are in place for Saturday and the auction is on Saturday. The Amelia Concours is one of the best automotive events in the world. Two years ago it was awarded the best automotive event in the world. People who have a car invited like it better than Pebble Beach. They say that Pebble and Retromobile are just events that you have to attend, but Amelia is the one that you want to attend. If you haven't been to Amelia it one of the events that should be on your bucket list.

You probably know my son Brian (Executive Director). I volunteered until two years ago. Might do so again next year.

Just curious, there's a car dealer network in Charlotte County Fla called Gene Gorman's, are you the Gene Gorman or a different Gene Gorman? One of the dealers is right near where I live. But ya the Wagons are awesome, I see you have a 2012 also, thats what I drive. Great car.

Someone asked me that when I was at my reunion in Illinois. No that is not me.
I was as a tool and die maker for 22 years and then owned three restaurants for 20 years. Now I'm retired and enjoying life here in Northeast Florida spending time with my wife, kids, grandkids and my cars.
