I know its normal to smell gas if you have DP's with NO CATS, but I smell oil, Not always though. No leaks at all and the oil is only smelled outside. like the side of the vehicle where the DP would be. Is this normal? Its def. oil even my friends confirmed, like I said, its NOT a constant smell. Comes and goes.

100% normal.... no cats to burn unburned gas exiting the engine into the exhaust, so you're gonna smell gas.... its not near as bad on turbo cars since exhaust passes through turbo housing before heading back to downpipes

on my C63 and E55 with longtube headers/no cats the smell was way worse, like would get you high/noxious if you stood outside of those cars for more than 15 seconds lol

In short, no, it is not. Not at least from my experience. It's probable you have a VERY slow leak that is never making it to the ground and burning off when it hits the exhaust. Over time, as it gets worse, you will see the signs of it.

running a full catless set-up it will smell like burning fuel/oil since its straight combustion gasses escaping the motor.

also if dps are recently installed (like less than 100 miles on them) they will burn off some stuff as most people don't wipe down the pipes after install but they should as hands get greasy and sometimes there is an oily residue on exhaust components from the manufacturing process.

or sign of turbos seals going,,,,going catless shows the symptoms more.

Just smells funny overall. different smell, kinda pungent smell that is different than my past catless cars. I won't really say oil smell just slightly different than just gas smell.

That being said, your eyes do not water standing outside this car either like past cars. Its not a pleasant smell but its not so strong either

When do turbo seals usually go? I feel like I highly doubt its turbo seals, worse case small seepage from valve cover gaskets and they're burning down on exhaust manifolds or DP

it can be any time frame.... ive had it happen after 5K miles on a new turbo that i was running heavy boost on while, unbeknownst to me i had a blocked crankcase vent...you can develop a turbo seal leak due to excessive inlet pressure, excessive crankcase pressure, or an otherwise restricted drain...Turbos seals are journal bearings which are very simple and like all bearings, prone to failure from time to time. If you have dirty oil or very high temperature the beairngs will wear to the point that they won't seal well

Mine stinks pretty bad too, was worse for the first week after the cats came out. My car is white so the bumper also gets a film on it over top of the exhaust tips if I don't wash it for a week or so. I smell fuel but no oil.

If it is seals, you will not see leaks, its being burned off in the exhaust. Depending on the severity of the leak (assuming its leaking at all), your oil levels might go low before oil changes

If you smell oil burning in the middle of the car put the car on a lift and look for burnt oil stains on the exhaust pipes

blue smoke will be intensive especially when boosting...and dropping the downpipe normally solves this mystery since there will be signs of major oil burning there.. Check for in and out and side to side play of the turbine wheels ..shaft play pretty much seals the deal in diagnosis of bad seals

yea, but turbo seals will be a constant oil smell. I took it to a performance MB shop and it seems like its just swoosh of oil smell right at startup, but no smoke from exhaust or anything, just a smell for a brief few seconds right by the door

So this car does not have a PCV valve (according to service advisor and parts guy), but it does have two pseudo PCV like parts that leak and cause oil smells

278 010 0431 - Oil separator
000 998 6590 - Plug

Both located in the rear of the engine and act like PCV valves (may be exactly that but since they do not have that official name from MB, the dealer guys refuse to call it PCV). But they do tend to leak

You would think a guy with a Cummings diesel would be used to smelling oil and seeing smoke.

I have barely smelled anything in my car since getting the DP's, but I did remove the cats, so just a bit of smell of exhaust if I leave it running after I get home and immediately get out of the car.

Good luck with it and keep us apprised.
