Warranty on a 2011 E63 AMG / 12k Miles
Hey guys,
I have two questions. Just recently picked up a 2011 E63 AMG (6.2L engine) with exactly 12k miles on it. We purchased the tire and wheel warranty - 60 months for $2195. Was this worth it? The car also has the alloy rim package ($1295).
Also, the car is currently out of warranty. Mercedes Benz was offering a third party warranty for $3495 4 yrs/48k miles which covered everything. I figured we would opt out of it considering the low mileage, and the way i'm going to be driving it. However, I'm aware that any error would be insanely expensive to fix (including the headbolt issues which are relatively common in these engines). Should I go with this warranty as well or should I wait / find a better deal elsewhere?
Thanks!

Now beware, a lot of warranty companies won't cover bolts (head bolts, rocker arm bolts, lug nuts), so your head bolt issue won't be covered anyway under those types of policies

I would refund out of that wheel warranty. You are essentially gambling that you will have more than $2195 in wheel repairs over the next 5 years. Curb rash is a minor fix these days, less than $150 in most cases. If you ever really bent a rim and had to bite the bullet for a new one, they are $1200 brand new. Thats almost 2 wheels you could buy.

I purchased an OEM wheel off ebay. It was a salvage wheel in perfect condition 450.00. So drop the wheel warranty and purchase a warranty that covers drive train, electrical, navigation, sun/pano roof etc. I had to have a new valve cover which warranty paid for 850.00. Pano roof repair 1100.00. DIS knob 460.00.

PM your vin# to valvestud to see if your car is plagued with the headbolts issue.
Which company provides the third party warranty?

absolutely go refund the wheel warranty and stick it towards that bumper to bumper. You will never get a warranty at that price for an AMG, and you will absolutely use it. I have an '11 with 18K on it and that was my first thought. I am currently stationed overseas and the car is sitting in a garage, but once I get back in June, I will be spending the $5K on a warrantee. You might want to ask MB if that warranty will cover your headbolt issue if your VIN falls in that realm.
