Seemed to burble a bit more on the 2015 E63S I test drove.

Thanks Lenin - I also thought it sounded 15-20% louder at WOT vs Comfort setting. Any truth to that, or just an impression?

2002 C32 AMG, 2013 GLK 350/4, 2015 E63S AMG Wagon
The simple answer is yes, in S+ the cars sounds louder. For the most part C, S and S+ effect how quickly the transmission is shifting into gears. Throttle manipulation (along with changes in other ECU/TCU parameters) is how it is done. S+ at WOT makes the maximum sound come out sooner and more sudden.
