with all that idling, you'll need to change your oil on every month! How long will it take to warm up after you change it?

To minimize the post oil change warm-up time, you should just keep the engine running while you drain & refill the oil.

my thoughts exactly... I'll need to be able to change the oil really fast to avoid engine damage ...

also im thinking I should preheat the new oil to 220F.... can't be too careful with the this fragile m157

be careful though as you need to realize that new oil is going to be a bit different than you're older broken down oil, so you might see a big bump in performance so take it easy with the new oil and dont abuse all that newfound performance ... its gonna be like ---->

But how are you going to run the pre-warmer engine with cold oil? Think of the damage that will be done to THAT motor.

until we come up with a collective better option to pre-heat the oil for the oil break-in engine, i think we are going to have to warm the new fresh oil for the break-in engine in a new frying pan that has been cleaned of any impurities and funnel it into the break-in engine before starting... its our only hope. godspeed and god save the queen (and the ewoks too, they are cute)

With all the talk about preheating oil. I decided I was going to try to be smarter than everyone else. So I decided I would preheat my oil in my sons 91 Honda CRX. Well let me be the first to warn you don't do this. now my car sounds like it has a fart can and has lost all torque and the worst part was a group of teen boys puffing on vapes showed up wanting to roll race. for the love of God don't preheat your oil in a Honda

Oh boy did I make a mess! Its getting really cold here in the NE and the pre-heating of the oil was becoming a real issue so I did the only thing sensible. I went out an bought a Tesla P100D. As the P has to stand for Petrol, which is oil and the D was clearly for Diesel as this is a hybrid right? But here is the problem, I can not find the "oil fill" for either the P or the D....this thing is way to confusing! MBUSA, please save us all!

Just got the call from my dealer apparently they're going to have to ship my oil to Mercedes-Benz in Germany they are hoping that the German engineers will be able to remove the Honda out of my oil if not they are saying that they will ship me the required amount of oil that has been run through a GTS they are hoping this will restore my car

I had to stop at a few places while in the E63 today. When I got into the car after my first stop, the oil temp read 67C. I thought, "Great the car is almost up to temperature." (It turns white at 71C). I then got onto the highway and watched the temp proceed to drop, falling to 64C.

I guess the oil cooling system isn't controlled by a thermostat, and the -18C ambient temperature at highway speeds cooled the oil faster than the engine warmed it.

this happens to me routinely in Chicago winters

i hired a guy named Sal to ride shotgun and he gets out of car at stops and heats up engine with butane torch

ive been paying him $10/hour but now that trump is prez, he wants benefits!!! Damn you amg!!!!

I sure love the remarks. Best part is the few in here that don't know what 0w40 oil really is and why we have it in our cars.

Where's the OP? It's been almost 3 weeks....I need my update!!!

I am going to try tomorrow to do my modification I will let you know . The big problem I have is I go to the high Sierras, extremely cold and wet oil temperature will drop coming down the hill, there is eight 212° thermostat so it should stay at 212 or so . I did see one of these motors completely apart at 120,000 miles it looks very good but the point is oil is always supposed to be hot, 212 is the boiling point of water at sea level that's where you want your oil . It needs to boil out all the contaminants going to the vapor system and Brunt. The factory probably doesn't want to deal with the problem because it's going to be very expensive I will post my conclusions on my modification of the thermostat system, have a very merry Christmas !

its a design flaw, m157 engine was designed to be driven at average speed of 184 mph, so you need to speed up or hire peter's guy Sal....

0W is the bomb! Especially when overnight temps reach -25C and there is no block heater available for the AMG.

I use 0W exclusively in our cars. AMG gets 0W40; wife's E250, 0W30; and 0W20 in the Acura.

lol +1 Who would've thought Mercedes would of chose to use an oil that has a different viscosity when it's cold than when it's heated up to protect the engine when it's both cold and warmed up
