I THANK WE HAVE A PROBLEM
I own a 2014 S 63 AMG wagon, I have been watching my oil temperature and it takes over a half an hour to come up to temperature, took to dealer they agreed it's too slow and put in a new oil temperature thermostat, seem to solve the problem for a day or two then back to the same low oil temperature for over a half an hour very slow to come up ( driving down the freeway in cold-weather approximately 50° ) The dealer put in three more thermostats to no avail, I am a Mercedes-Benz mechanic have been for 35 to 40 years we all know oil should heat up quick, hot oil lubricates properly and it's better gas mileage .I am going to do a modification on the spring system for the thermostatic oil control. If people with the same motor (twin t v8) give me any type of information if anybody's oil heats up quicker I believe there is an engineering problem in the thermostat I will let you know when I do a test should be the next couple weeks if you could please comment on your vehicles I would appreciate all the data , most of the wear on a cold motor is because of cold oil !thank you merry Christmas God bless you

My 2012's oil temp reaches 175* within 5 mins and 4 miles of rural driving from cold start up (50* outside temp) and gets to and stays around 200* within another minute or two at freeway speeds.

My oil heats slowly as well. I mentioned it in another thread but others seemed to have the same experience. So it may be an engineering issue.
From my observations, the E63 takes about 5x longer to heat than my M3 did (V8). Both motors have about the same amount of oil to heat, so doubt that is the issue.
I have a 2014 E63S.......if you are looking for specific data/times, etc. let me know. I can start to closely monitor it. I also think it abnormal to take so long for the oil to get to temp, especially in a turbo motor.

I just happened to check this the other day to see if there was a noticeable difference in heat up times between our winter and summer months. Nope, about 5 mins for both. I've never had a car that took that long to get oil temps up so I'd definitely say something is wrong with your guys' oil temps.

Also a 2014 e63s here. I have the same problem it takes about 20 minutes for the oil to get out of the "blue" and turn to "white"
it doesn't seem right that a turbo motor is acting this way.
Hopefully somebody here can come up with a solution to this problem.

Looks like it very well might be an engineering problem with the facelift models.

2014 wagon, same here, takes app. 12 - 15 miles to heat up in cold temp weather. Water temp on the other hand heats up quickly. I noticed that too that I have to baby the motor for a long time.
I also own a air cooled 911 which has ~ 12quart of oil. This motor takes about the same time until oil is at operating temp. That's why I never considered this to be an issue.
Do these engines have an oil/water heat exchanger installed? Maybe it's configured too small?
I still have warranty on the car so I haven't paid much attention to the systems installed.
Would be interesting to find out what the bottleneck may be.

I have a 2014 E63s and it does take a while to get out of the "blue" especially with highway driving. Stop/go or city driving is a bit quicker. It will get up to 150-160 rather quickly, but then it takes forever to get to 176.
My previous car was a 2014 M5, also TT V8, and it seemed pretty slow as well although the temp gauge was analog.
My NA cars, including an M156 motor, did seem to heat up quicker. Fastest was an RS5. It was 5 minutes.
I normally start off in comfort mode. Would starting off in S+ mode make it heat up faster since we are using lower gears and higher RPM's?

it sounds like it's "normal" operation for a 14+ to take a long time to warm up, but we have reports saying pre facelift only took 5 minutes to heat up.
Something must of been changed for a reason here

yeah these cars where engineered all wrong and we are doomed... you guys sell me yours at fire sale prices to prevent further stress
with this newly found flaw they are probably only work $25K in the next few weeks any ways when nada and KBB find out, but being a nice guy i will give each person with a 2014+ e63 $28K to relieve you of these piece of crap cars that lose all the roll races and were engineered by special ed students

Good morning we all need to talk to the dealerships, after they put in for thermostats they talk to the AMG people the driving Academy and they said they all heat up that slow so it must be normal and OK. Bull**** ! I'm hoping to get to mine in the next couple weeks I will let everybody know I do know though once you put a new thermostat in it seems to work for the first couple heat cycles then back to the same bull**** .

The question is, why is my pre-facelift heating up so quickly? It shouldn't heat up that fast, should it? Oil heating up so fast can't be good for the engine! The engineers must have messed up with the oil cooling circuit, for sure. Hey, gaspam, want to take my POS car off my hands too? One-time-good-deal, just for you!

I maybe mistaken but I thought facelifted S-models came with additional oil coolers. However I'm having trouble finding evidence to back this up. My '14 has heated up slowly from day one.

I have a '14 and mine heats up in 5-10 minutes, even in 40 degree weather. Never really paid close attention, but I will time it next time.

Hello the deal with cold oil is that it does not lubricate probably Intel it's warmed up/Pistons are cool by oil so they don't let the Pistons get hot enough/expand to the right dimension, the faster you can heat oil the better for the engine/most racecars oils are preheated to aid in less wear upon start up E missions are higher any cold engine, it's harder to turn the motor over with cold oil/worse gas mileage, this is just the tip the ice on cold oil I do have to admit I'm a little ADA HDA and every other kind of hay when I drive my car and see the oil temperature oil is cold makes me cringe, I raced cars professionally for years if I ever had oil that cold I would not run the motor, 250° is what I like , talk to one of my engine builders today he won't put a load on a motor on the Dino until at least 160° oil temp

I just drive the thing and never really look at the temps ... always baby it a bit for first minutes

So I guess driving the car hard while oil temp is still in blue zone is really bad for the engine?
does it also not run at full power that way or simply it's damaging to the engine?
