Upgrading trans necessary?
Thinking of putting the bigger Renntech turbos in my car. I already have their 'bolt-ons.' When upgrading turbos, is it necessary to upgrade the trans? What about rods?
Thank you for your time

No need to upgrade your trans if you keep the torque under 1000. No rods needed.

Not true at all. Tranny will not last long at over 700wtq. Given that turbo upgrades are capable of 850 ft/lbs at the wheels, building a trans should be part of your near term plans

So with just a tune on stock turbos your saying the tranny needs to be built up?

That's not true either ... my stock tranny has had over 700 wtq for about a year and a half now with no problems and I drive my car hard pretty much all the time ....
as others have mentioned most tunes put out over 700 wtq and haven't heard many tranny failures yet and those tunes have been around a while

my quick review= the car is CRAZY fast with it especially down low. I got a test drive In a renntech tuned car that didn't feel as quick. Definitely a solid tune from EC on this one.

I know of two cars that needed rebuilds on MCT trans, making high 600s whp and low 700s torque. Transmission always work great...till they don't. Don't kid yourself. Making 300ft/lbs more than stock is going to kill your tranny prematurely. Best to plan for upgrades if you want care free reliablity.

What kind of upgrade does the tranny need to stay reliable long term then?

call the guys at renntech, they will clear it up for you..i have talked to them man times when i have been in their shop for tune and dyno day many times and have inquired about their turbo upgrade in the past and they told me upgraded trans wasnt necessary for daily driver
technically any increase in hp over stock decreases longevity... but so does driving and putting miles on a car as well

I would agree that "daily driver" is a bit of a qualifier. Ifyou are not beating the hell out of the car, and running street tires where you will just spin, you will probably survived for some time. But launch with traction a few times and you will be playing with fire. a few cars have munched transmissions with stock power and slicks.

Do you mean not to use launch control or even mash and go from stop will cause issues?
Also, I thought the whole point of the TCU torque limits was in order to prevent all this from happening...

my jeep CJ7 needs a tranny rebuild too and it only has about 200 hp and doesnt even have turbos cant always blame tranny problems on turbos and power

My tuned CLS63 gives no issues with normal hard driving but if I do a string of brake starts in a row i can make the transmission slip, presumably the plates get hot and start slipping.
