Purchasing car as Ceritified pre-owned with 40,000 miles. Plus had them replace the brake pads, new batteries, completely dump and flush brake fluid, replace all fluids and filters (engine oil, trans, diffs and transfer cases etc...)
Car has one year almost to the day remaining on original warranty, plus additional one year for CPO, plus I purchased additional two years of warranty from MB (not an aftermarket extended warranty), so I have four years of MB warranty.
Car was always serviced where it was purchased originally which is also where I purchased it from. Full service history was provided and all regular services completed on schedule, and no issues ever beyond a battery that needed to be replaced last year.
Original sticker on the car with all of the options was $128k.
Purchased for $73k, slight discount from $75k ask.
Given the unique spec (exactly what I was looking for after many months of searching for a Lunar Blue, carbon ceramic, B&O, etc...), I wasn't going to screw around too much with the price and risk losing it!
I am a week into ownership of my 2016 E63S wagon in graphite over red. Steel brakes, rear seat entertainment and all of the driver aids. I picked it up in Kentucky and drove it home to San Francisco. Incredible car, my second Mercedes and first AMG.
Bought CPO and I extended the warranty the maximum allowed.

Beautiful car! Question for you: did you drive home on temporary tags, or did you have permanent plates?
If temporary tags, any issues?
MB dealer in CA is saying they can only give me temp tags as permanent plates in CA take a month. Since you are from CA (or anyone else from CA), does that sound right?

Thanks
I drove on temp tags with no issues whatsoever. We are new to temp tags here in CA as we only started requiring them on 1/1/19. In my experience though plates do take about a month to show up.

Got it. Thank you- good to hear!
I'm a bit paranoid about getting pulled over because I have temp taga from out of state.

Beautiful wagon, love the color combo. I too have the Mystic Red interior and it looks great! How did the wagon do diving through Deals Gap? The tail of the dragon is something I always wanted to experience one day.
Transaction completed on my new to me 2016 E63 wagon, Lunar Blue on Designo Amaretto Napa leather, black piano lacquer wood trim, black wheels, carbon ceramic brakes, B&O stereo, rear seat entertainment, Distronic Plus, etc... Picking it up next week and driving it home across country from Vegas to NYC. Excited!
Congrats on finding your unicorn. How is the Amaretto interior? That must be very rare color. I don’t think I have seen another one before. Is it as orange as it appears on screen?

Much more brown- less orange. I'll try and take some better pics later today. In the meantime, here are a couple of shots from the trip so far.

I am a former BMW enthusiast and have long coveted these absurd vehicles. I turn 50 in a couple months so this was my present to me. Ive had it about a month and cannot believe how much fun this car is to drive! Recently added the AMR Performance tune via MyGenius OBD 2 port, which makes it even more fun. Its a blast to destroy Vettes, Mustangs and M cars in a grocery getter. In addition to the tune, I added 35/20 ceramic tint and had ceramic coating placed on the finish. Considering resonator delete and straight pipes to increase cabin music. Looking forward to getting it out to VIR for a track spin.
Hey guys, great collection of wagons in here. I'm looking to join the fold - formerly had a CTS-V wagon so at least I have some legit wagon cred - and over the weekend here in Denver drove a grey '14 E63s wagon at Mike Ward Maserati/Mclaren.
Heads up for any of you looking at that car: it spent its first 4 years in Manhattan, it has un-repaired bumper damage from an accident on the right rear bumper, immediately above that is some shoddy/marbled paint repair from what I'm assuming is the same incident, the AC didn't work, it has an aftermarket wide Android touch screen in place of the original COMAND screen (I'm assuming for CarPlay etc) which is a debatable thing unto itself, and then the trim in it is this absolutely hideous bamboo which clashes with the black dash and dark brown seats. Just because you can configure something through designo does not mean you should.
Anyway, car had a number of red flags and to top it off they're asking way too much at nearly $62k for the car, so I left it for the next guy. FYI for anyone looking for a wagon!
and then the trim in it is this absolutely hideous bamboo which clashes with the black dash and dark brown seats. Just because you can configure something through designo does not mean you should.!
Yup that's the one. I know this is a small community, we're all enthusiasts, and each to their own, etc. but the trim is a hard sell for most people. I rationalized that if I was going to buy it I'd wrap the trim, but the other slightly questionable pieces of its history and condition coupled with the high asking meant it was a hard no for me.
CTS V Wagon. Now that's a unicorn! Mad street cred. The bamboo Designo was indeed a poor choice. If you are looking, BAT has had quite the run on AMG wagons recently.
Yeah I have seen a number go through BaT recently; personally as a buyer I struggle with the premium that BaT usually leaves on a vehicle, which as a seller (and I was last fall - sold a BMW through BaT and did well!) is great, but as a buyer I guess I want the best deal possible.
Right now I'm trying to decide whether the premium on the W213 '18 wagons is worth it as they dip into the $80s, or whether I should just look for the best '14 W212 I can find for $50k or less because in spite of where these are often priced, I know they transact around there sometimes.
I can't really justify the '15-16 cars; people are still asking like mid-60s to $80s for '16s and I'm not going to pay that just for CarPlay, especially when the W213s are already teetering into that price range.
Anyway, long way of saying I doubt I'll find my car on BaT due to over-optimistic sellers and over-enthusiastic would-be buyers.
There are a couple on Autotrader right now in the low to mid $50's asking price...
Right, there’s a couple. I’m also wrestling with spending $50k+ on an out of warranty ‘14 and the implications there, versus say a CPO s212, versus the bigger jump to a CPO s213.
Not quite sure what the right path there is. All things being equal I definitely want to take a s213 home but not at a 6 figure price point.
I think at this point you’re better off waiting for an 18 or 19, but don’t expect the depreciation curve to be any steeper than it was for the 14-16 around the same time difference between new and used. At least that’s what I’d do if I was looking for one now, understand that might mean waiting a year or so for them to start coming off lease and the market to settle on fair value. Right now the used supply is simply too low.
of course, if you’re really jonesing for one, at least get a 14+ with low-ish miles. You’ll want to sell it before it hits 50k miles so drive it for awhile then pounce on an 18-19.
Whoops, maybe I shouldn’t have told you my plan for March 2021. Move along, nothing to see here.
