I have Weistec a DP without any cats and I never get any smell, inside or outside of the car, ever and I have put at least 1500 miles so far. The car sounds and drives great

Maybe.
Its the tone. Blaring. Volume wouldn’t bother me if it was just louder. But it’s the change in pitch/tone/whatever.
Maybe I need to just give it time. It’s not banshee and it’s not growl it’s now just … in the middle.

I’m putting the stock exhaust back and downgrading to stage 1 tune. It’s too damn smelly, I can’t hack it. It’s worse then my old school cammed camaro was. I can’t even leave the car in the driveway, the smell goes in the garage still. I left it idling today and swear there was a 200ft eye watering bubble around the car. I could smell it as soon as I opened the front door to go outside.
My Kooks will be up for sale soon for those who are more hardcore!

Downpipes stage 1 tune
Hey,
Does anyone know if its okay to run catless downpipes on a stage 1 tune? 2014 e63 amg to be specific. I am aware CEL turns on but is it bad for the car in any way?

I did get used to the noise! The part throttle rumble is great now. I’ll miss that and the cold start. WOT I can’t wait to be back to stock again it’s just rude lol.
I’ll never know how much slower or faster the car will be with or without cats since I’m still sorting it out. That makes me a little sad, leaving some horsepower on the table. Especially since my tuner says I can’t run E40 with cats

I am not sure what's up with your car, but my car with catless DP doesn't smell at all, none. It is possible you might have some gasket leak or some like that, get it checked out. Also the sound with the DP is pure music, awesome and will not switch it for anything else

Every car I have had run without cats stinks! My RX-7 will make your eyes water, and your clothes definitely will smell like the car.
High flow cats (200 cell) have no smell
Unless running E40-85, or going for MAX power I will run at the minimum HFCs.

So update on all this I'm going to put up with the smell and do baby steps
1) make sure there are no leaks
2) get the car running right - I added the DP and BB intake and went slower, maybe cleaned up running right it will not smell as bad
3) if I'm still unhappy with the car running right, I'm going to add in some 3" high flow cats instead of going back to stock and see how that goes
Baby steps. Will keep you all posted.

The flex fuel vehicles do run cats, but I suspect (no evidence) that when run at the ragged edge that cat life will be decreased. My understanding is that it is the heat that kills the convertors, but I am not a chemist.
Even high flow cats offer some restriction, esp when tuning / aiming for max power. I noticed that when I went cat less on my RX-7 from high flow cats and experienced overboost situation where the wastegate could not handle the extra flow to control boost pressures. Going to an external wastegate that could manage the higher flows (less restriction) was the solution. So even a high flow cat offers restriction.

Try adding 3 gallons of E85, you'll be around E20. It really helps with the smell on a catless car. Right now I have 200 cell high flow catted downpipes on my M157, the smell is 80-90% gone when I'm on straight 91 octane. With 3 gallons of E85 mixed in, I can put my face right in front of the tailpipes & not smell anything lol
