2015 E63S Purchase
Hey All -
I am currently looking at my options, and have my eyes on a 2015 E63S CPO. The E63S is a car I have wanted for about the last 3 years, and it was a tough debate to either buy brand new vs go with a model which is a few years old given the fact the W213 is a full refresh. However, rather than take the depreciation hit and potential issues on a brand new release - I’ve decided to buy CPO from a MB dealer.
Some questions I have:
- CarFax is reporting a “Mileage Discrepancy” on the one I have my eyes on - These “discrepancies” also seemed to be reported by actual MB dealers - should this raise any eyebrows?
- I am based in the North East. How are these things in the winter with a good set of winter tires given I am using it as a DD and they are 4-MATIC?
- Are there any “known” issues with the 2015’s that I should be aware of and/or question the dealer on before taking possession?
- How much wiggle room will MB usually budge on a CPO deal vs whats listed as a sale price on a site like KBB? Would the fact of a cash deal vs finance matter?
My intentions with the car are for it to be used as a daily driver. I have no intentions of tracking it or modding it - especially since I am looking to keep my CPO warranty intact. With that said - I do plan on having some fun with the vehicle and not driving it like an 80 year old man. I have never even driven an E63S before - but I have driven a C63S. Chances are since this vehicle is several hundred miles away, I am going to be negotiating a purchase without ever driving it. I don’t know how another dealer would react if I walked in for a test drive on a CPO but had intentions of buying a model/option I specifically wanted that was another location.
Anyway…looking forward to finally closing a deal on this thing, as I have wanted one for some time!

Since it's not brand new I would highly advise doing all your negotiations and then perhaps negotiating a plane ticket to the dealer and TEST DRIVE IT extensively. Put a refundable deposit to show you're a serious buyer
the mct can be a bit jerky and can very from e63S to e63S. Also there can be clicking with turning, whistling at 50mph+ (easy tsb fix), torn intake cloth hoses, wheel vibrations, brake squealing (rare), airmatic issues (rare), Bluetooth music skipping (rare), clunking with normal downshifting (easy re adaptation fix), rattling from engine on startup (needs tensioner adjustment), various rattles (common)
other than these rare issues it's an amazing car and my daily driver. More reliable than my Acura or BMW.
Trust me - test drive it ... it's a small price to pay that could save you.

And just to add regarding the winter driving capabilities. I'm in North NJ and have been using winter tires without any issues. I would say that winter tires in the north east are essential.

First, driving impressions on a E63s vs C63s is a totally different experiences. If you have not driven one, you got to see it and drive it before you buy it. Good luck.

i bought a 15 e63s CPO with 12k miles and just make sure you check everything in the car and make sure the dealer fixes everything as part of the CPO.
the dealer tells you they invest all this money to CPO the car and thus wont discount much on the price, so best to find 2-3 other e63s (or drive RS7 and a Panamera) that fit your interests and drive those so you can compare and better negotiate/have leverage.
for example, i bought mine in winter and never tested the AC but come spring it didnt cool and dealer did warranty repair for a compressor leak. perhaps the leak came after the CPO inspection who knows but CPO doesnt guarantee MB checks everything like they say they do.
also minor item, but i missed that my front lower lip had a big crack in the trim which unless you get on the ground and look you would never notice. they should have fixed that as part of CPO but i never saw it.
you can also call out paint damage / dents and they will fix those as part of CPO.
other minor items but make sure the trunk spare isnt missing anything, and take a moment to pop the hood and just look around, check for leaks, the intakes etc. fortunately the engine bay for my e63 was immaculate (florida car) but i did notice some minor coolant fluid leaks which they checked/pressure tested and was nothing more than overspill.
looks like for about $65-70K range you can pick up a 15 e63 thats CPO with 20k miles and most standard options (ie: may pay more for designo paint, forged 5 star rims, distronic, DVD/media, carbon fiber, CCB, bang and olufsen stereo)
i love my e63 and think you will too.

Thanks everyone!
The '15 Model I am looking at does have a Designo paint job as well as the Distronic, Surround View Cams, DVD/Media, and it is in fact the color combo I am looking for. The dealer is pretty firm on their price after some negotiations yesterday, even though they are aware I would be flying out to finalize a deal.
After reading some threads last night, I am now concerned about two things - 1 being the MCT and the other being the Navigation system in the 2016 vs the 2015. I am debating as to whether I should look at a 16 for the fact I may have less issues with the MCT and have a better navigation/comand software, what are everyones thoughts on this?
My last two purchases have been brand new from dealers on leases, so looks like I am going to have to put aside my impatience and do a real thorough inspection when I pick mine up, especially if it is out of state / 1000+ miles away.
E63sMonster - Beautiful car! I am looking at the Designo White (Non-Matte), I love that color combo.

So I've narrowed in and committed to buy a 2015. I am pretty excited. Flying on Monday to do a visual, mechanical inspection and test drive. If all goes well I'll be leaving be with it and have about 400 miles to get used to it.
its got a little over 23,000 miles on it. I saw on the CarFax they recently did front and rear brakes. Should I advocate for anything else service wise they should include before I buy? I saw nothing about tires being replaced yet.
Will probably be looking for a stellar set of winter rims & tires right away as well since it's that time of the year in North East!

Ok, so update -
I flew in yesterday and made the purchase of my E63S. This is my first Mercedes / first AMG - so I do have some questions I am hoping some people can help with. I did an extensive test drive of the car (2 hours), but then after purchase I got to spend another 6 hours driving the car home, here are some things I've noticed:
1) I've never experienced this in a car before (maybe its the performance tires?) but when veering close to a yellow/white line in the road, I can actually feel vibrations from the wheel on that side of the car. Now, maybe this was the state and/or interstate I was driving on the way home that they built this into the road, or maybe this is normal behavior with these type of tires? Either way I'm looking for clarification on that.
2) I did test "popping" of the sunroof upon deployment, however one thing I did notice with the Panoramic is that if I hit a big enough bump on the road, such as an incline/decline/whatever - It sounds like a brief, sharp crack. The first time this made me pretty nervous, but after 2-3 bumps I figured this was normal?
3) There are also some music "skips", this wasn't even uncovered myself until maybe 4-5 hours of running time, but they are brief - like 1 sec then music returns.
4) The last thing is one thing I was pretty pissed about when I got to the dealer, but later got over was the fact there was about a 1 and 1/2 inch paint scratch on the front driver side fender. Upon close inspection it is pretty noticeable. When I asked the sales rep about that, he basically told me the following: "We usually don't have these types of small dings repaired on the performance car as it adds body work to the carfax and raises un-necessary questions regarding the car was in a wreck or otherwise". Just trying to understand how true that is coming from a MB dealer mouth.
I understand that at this point its almost a 3 year old car, so I need to wrap my head around the fact it is not going to be brand new, and I am going to have to live with some anomalies. Outside of that - I absolutely love the car! They gassed it up for me in full and told me I should make it home on a full tank no problem, I was having so much fun I went through the entire first tank in the first 130-150 or so miles! I got the Designo White w/ Night Styling package, and I still think most people on the road from the front think of it as an E Class / Non-AMG, which makes for some great fun.
will post pics soon!

Congrats on the car. The vibrations you are feeling are from the Active Lane Keep Assist system. It gives you a shake to get you away from the lines. You can disable this in the settings if you want. Lots of info in the printed and Digital Operator's Manual.
As for the cosmetic issue, it's sad to keep hearing about things like this. The dealer is full of ****, and regardless of whether they fixed it or not, it should have been disclosed before you went to see the car. Too many examples of this, esp. from MB dealers.
Hope you enjoy it!

Your pano needs repair ... that's what I warned you about .. the popping and creaking, it's under warranty
your audio was Bluetooth? You may need a software update, if it was skipping with direct connection lightning cable then this is not normal either
agree with active lane assist
Scratches are a dealer dependent thing not a Mercedes cpo thing, this is on you because you didn't notice it and negotiate the repair prior to taking delivery
congrats and enjoy in good health

I know this is long overdue, but better now than never.
I've had the thing since September and can't get enough of it, already put 15k miles on the car. Recent mods I've done was total blackout (front grille, all badging, door handles, rear trunk line), tints and a Escort Max Ci360 with custom fabrication for the controller (since I've already gotten two tickets since I've had it )
Here are some pics we did today:

MY17 S63AMG - MBUSA Buyback. MY16 SL63 - Sold MY19 W213 E63s. 2020 W213 E63s Wagon
Sweet. Enjoy it. There are some great suggestions from forum members that you should have taken into consideration and if those bases are cover, your good to go especially you got the extended warranty.

Beautiful. Did you ever get the pano roof work done? I DIY my 350 and it took about an hour. For my 63, I am thinking of dropping off at dealer, but they quoted new roof and time is about a week for return.

I haven't done it yet, but still have about 1yr 9mo left on the CPO. Will probably schedule it on my next trip if they do indeed quote a week.

Yeah it is 6 bolts. I was able to get to all 6 with only the back portion of the headliner down. I did bend the headliner a bit near the rear window cause I was forcing my way to the bolts. You can only see the bend if you look for it. Now with that said, I didn't want to repeat my mistake and have it done under warranty while I still have it.
I doubt they would give me a new roof, but that was what was quoted. There is no visible damage so I think they assumed it creaked to the point of a cracked roof without inspecting before sending me off.
Did your car come with night package styling before your mods?

test drive it thoroughly including in stop and go, try not to be drunk on the sheer power and excitement of the car and consider it in daily driving utility scenarios, parking in lot, bumper to bumper traffic. Also prepare yourself for $3000-4000 brake jobs and other expensive amg maintenance items. If that stuff spooks you, look for another car. Make sure the brakes are to your standards and have enough life in them. Does the panoramic roof POP OR CREAK... with inclines? Do not accept the car if it does

I bought my 2014 in January 2018. It was fine for a month then the popping started. Took it to the dealer and they gave me a loaner for a couple days. They don't just re-torque the bolts, they use loctite. It's only be a few months but no issues. Car only had 20k miles on it.

Looks good! Identical to my '16 and I blacked everything out as well. I also had the outer silver part of the wheels painted satin black to match the rest of the wheel
