X-PIPE, W212 E63 AMG S, Finally XPipe after much research, $700!?

So after a few weeks of looking at cars..
2014 Maserati Gran Turismo MC Sport, 15 BMW M6 Conv, 2016 Porsche 911 GTS...

All were beautiful cars but just not enough for me to trade my E63. the GTS was a close one...

So I had to cure this itch and decided to remove the resonator and do an X-Pipe and SS strait pipe extension from the cats. Quote at a local AAMCO is $750. While I am sure the fabrication work will be done nicely, the price tag seems a bit high. I figure to do just a strait pipe it would be around 250-300$ but that is not what i hear is best for the 5.5 bi-turbo(UN-even exhaust flow and heavy vibrations)... so X-pipe it is.

You guys think $750 is high?

Something like this i suppose... obviously not as polished or as nicely welded... it is Aamco.

Personally, yes...way too high.

Just had an x-pipe installed this morning for $150, parts and labor 👌 '14 E63.

No, I don't think it's too high. But I wouldn't let AAMCO do work on my car.

Is it quieter or louder?

Hard to say as it's not broken in yet, but definitely not "loud" louder. I have the "Amg gts" burble tuned in so it made that louder for sure, seems like it is slightly smoother as well. I had an H pipe on my biturbo cls63 and that was louder/sputtery at idle/nice downshifts.

Also, after H-pipe on the CLS63 I went with a full 3" Modern Horsepower turboback exhaust (0 restriction) - and that made for an epic turbo spool sound (loud), almost no drone and a great sound overall.

Keeping it rather quiet with the E63S, for now, but it is definitely a small upgrade from stock.

X-pipe made no volume difference from stock on my car. Had to go straight... which was night and day. Also not going to hear much with stock muffler.

I mean this in the nicest possible way, but that x-pipe is a really bad design (at least from the angle i can see via this picture) and I'm about 90% sure that it's choking power up top.

Anyone local to you that you could listen to before you go X-pipe? So I have straight pipes and I can sort of see what people say about vibration etc and I've noted it as well, but after a few months I don't care/mind and I do like the sound. I wish it was a bit louder when I stomped on it honestly but I'm sure I would be sacrificing something to get that.

You might be paying a lot of extra money to lose power and to have something that may not give you enough sound. Just a thought.
