BRAKE LINE CHEWED!! What procedure should I take to fix it?

Hey guys,

In another stroke of bad luck this week, I was driving bad home when I felt the brake pedal go to the floor and lost alot of braking and got the red brake fluid warning on the cluster. I was pretty much home so I pulled into the driveway.

I was honestly so tired I actually didn't even bother to see what was wrong. After the battery/alternator thing I was really not in the mood.

The next day I went out to see and there was a pool of fluid, which I now know is brake fluid, collected around the rear right side on the ground.

I took off the wheel and had a look. The brake line (flexible, off the caliper) had been rubbed through, I assume by the tire, not sure why but it was clear what had happened.

What should I do in this case? I was really stupid to leave it to the next day and it's actually been 2 days now. I'm worried moisture has now gotten into the braking system as brake fluid is very hygroscopic. I have another brake caliper set spare so I can take the brake line off that. Are there any seals I should replace and it's probably a good idea to clean the area thoroughly before opening up the 2 ends so no dirt goes in.

Sorry for sounding like an idiot but I want to make sure to do it right as not to have problems. I would do a brake fluid flush but I don't have STAR right now to open up the ABS pump.

Obviously before all that I need to see why the hell the tire was contacting the hose so it doesn't happen again.

Here's a picture.

You just have to replace the brake line and make sure it is routed correctly so it won't rub in the future.

Yep, replace the brake line. You will need to bleed that caliper at least but can do that with just a 2nd person actuating the pedal, did the reservoir run dry? If so you'll need to bleed all four corners and the ABS.

It may have yes. To bleed the ABS, do I need STAR?

Can I use one of those iCarSoft MB II Pro units or similar or does it have to be STAR?
