Cost for MB extended warranty?

Hey Guys,

looking into upgrading from my 2011 to a 2015 or 16. I plan on getting a CPO and buying an extended warranty. My current $30k rod bearing repair has proven that you do not want to own an AMG without being under warranty. Fortunately my 3rd party warranty is paying for repair or totalling the car and paying me $32k for the car. Which, is yet to be decided. In any scenario I am not keeping the car after such a serious repair performed by a non Stutgart tech..

I looked around online for the extended warranty for the newer AMG's with no luck. I think I remember reading something like $6k to $8k ??

So if I buy this warranty for say a 2 year old car I think the following is true?

2 years on original warranty left
+ 1 year for CPO
+ 2 years for the extended warranty

total of 5 years?? Can I get a longer MB extended warranty like 4 years instead of 2?

Any info like cost or answers to above questions will be greatly appreciated.

Thank a Lot

MB CPO will get you another year after the original expires. At purchase you can buy an extra one or two years of CPO for a very attractive price. I don’t think you can buy more than two extra though.

There is a extended warranty thread in the general forum that discusses pricing and options.

An extended MB warranty and a CPO warranty are two different things although they cover almost the same thing. For an extended warranty, they go up to 7/100k, you can buy that if it still has some of the original warranty and you're either the original owner or you bought private party or through a non MB dealer. CPO cars come from the MB dealer and come with one year plus whatever is left of the original warranty so 5 years max. You can just buy 2 more years of MB's CPO warranty. After that, you'd have to find a 3rd party warranty company. The MB one is usually considered the best. There are several vendors mentioned in the extended warranty sub forum that can quote you a price. It helps if you have the VIN number to make sure it qualifies.

Thanks to all replies guys.

I have since spoken to my SA at the dealer and he informed me very close to what has been said here.

1 year extra over the original warranty with CPO and option of 2 additional years at a cost between $4k and $6k.

So basically a 2 year old vehicle will be covered for 5 years after purchase at a cost of between $4k and $6k.

Thanks Again

Not to start another extended warranty thread, because there's at least one other on here that's very good, but it sounds like you're getting jobbed with that pricing. I'm about to pull the trigger on a 3 year/75K ELW for my 2014 E63 wagon for $6328. Granted, that's a very good price, list is somewhere closer to 7K, but it's also for a non-CPO car with a 4/50 that's going to expire in two weeks. A cost of 4-6K for an extra two years on top of CPO seems very high. Might not be a bad idea to ping Jeff Jackson at Tafel Motors to see if there's anything he can do, that's who I'm going to buy my warranty from and he's mentioned extensively in another extended warranty thread.

I am looking at buying a 2015 SL550 which is of course not an AMG. The car is CPO from an MB dealer so it comes with a one year CPO warranty behind the 10 months remaining on the factory warranty and the dealer just quoted me $5,387.52 including tax on an extra two year CPO warranty.

When I bought my E63 Wagon four years ago the 7 year 75K mile extended warranty from Erin Mahre at Santa Rosa MB was only $2,650.00. Either prices have gone up from MB or some dealers are getting greedy.

Wow, I too remember cheaper post-CPO pricing. When I bought my E550 CPO a few years ago, IIRC the extra two years was somewhere around 3K. I think prices have gone up, I shopped the warranty and Jeff was the cheapest that I found. If someone has a cheaper option I'm all ears.

I just posted in that other thread to bring it back up to the top. I was looking at my emails with Jeff, at the time I contacted him in August I was looking at a PP car and a CPO car. I bought the PP car, but here's the prices he gave me for both scenarios. Car #1 is the CPO car.

Car #1- 1 year $2195/2 year $3550, both have unlimited mileage

Car #2- 2 year/75k elw $5253, 3 year/75k elw $6328
