Carbon Fiber Engine Cover

Hey Guys,

Any of you upgrade your engine cover yourself to the carbon fiber? Pretty easy to do obviously. Comes off by hand. My question though is what do you do about the signature placard? Is that transferable?

I am about to pull the trigger on a 2015 that is loaded for the most part. But no CF cover. Can't imagine it's that expensive. Anybody know?

Thanks in Advance

Assuming that the engine cover is the same on all M157 motors...

$957. For a piece of plastic that probably saves 2 oz over the stock piece.

I have a brand NEW Mercedes AMG OEM carbon fiber engine cover that I have still in original Mercedes OEM packing straight from Germany. Retail $2,800. Make an offer( low ball offer will be ignored ). It does not come with the signature plaque. You can simply remove your old engine cover signature plaque with fishing lines or dental floss and a hair dryer to heat the adhesive that is holding the plaque together with the cover. PM me if you have any questions. When I get sometime tomorrow, I'll post some photos of it, but like I said. It is brand new in original Mercedes OEM packaging and cover. Never install.

You can just swap over the badges and signature piece, how ever AMS makes a sweet carbon airbox and center piece setup that looks great.

I took all the covers off, incl. the foam pack around the coils and spark plugs. Not to save weight but for the engine to get rid of the heat better.

Add me to the list of interested parties. Yes, the AMS set is very nice, but a bit too much for me personally. as in, for looks a centerpiece would be enough. For performance, you need the entire AMS kit.

fyi. The attached link is for a standard NONE carbon fiber engine cover. The engine cover doesn't do anything performance wise, but I like my cars with CF bits especially on a white car and the eye pooping CF engine cover really scrams back at you when the hood is opened.

I checked it out. It is very nice and cool looking. But for $4k I think I can get more bang for the buck elsewhere.

Thanks to everybody who replied.

BTW, I am not interested in the cf cover for weight reduction whatsoever. It would be purely cosmetic. I was thinking it would be something in the $400 to $700 range. WRONG! So needless to say I am liking the cover I have now a lot! :-)

CF Cover

I believe the carbon fiber engine cover was a $1500 option-I have one on my 2016 E63S.

Yes, I believe you are right even though it's interesting that it's no longer listed in the sales collateral as an option. It was an order list only option I guess.
There were internal CF, external CF, and then the engine cover. I bet they didn't sell that many of the cover option. Most "normal" people are unlikely to see the value, since no one but them can see the CF.
As far as I understand that was also the order of popularity - internerior (majority), external (small minority), engine cover (almost none).

And as we all know - pricing at new purchase is one thing, buying a new spare part is 2x (or more of that), and the value as a used part is a fraction of the original part. Just like modding in general....

What about a vinyl wrap or that water/hydro dipped process on your existing cover? Couldn't be much $$ to get the CF look that way.

I understand your point here, although you may now be presenting your ecu with much more heat. Notice how the cooling fins on top of the ecu is above the covers?

just a thought from a ME.

The cf engine cover comes from Germany without the signature emblem as seen in the photos and its held on with double sided tape that can be removed with a hair dryer and fishing line.

You're probably correct that one is probably gone. But, I have seen a few of them on ebay this year. So, if you set an alert maybe you can grab one quickly enough. GL
