I dunno how much you will perceive it, but, you should notice a difference in steering feel and handling. I am guessing that the previous owner of your car either stretched the 225's for fitment issues (ie: he might have lowered the car or maybe he/she just thought it would look cool or they just threw them on cuz they were selling the car?). Had you said the 225's were winter tires, I would maybe think the previous owner was after better performance in snow? I have read that narrower tires do better in snow... but, I dunno about stretching a 225 onto a 9" wheel.

Yeah, no problem, just my 2 cents. The dealer I purchased mine form also handed me the car with tires which sizes were out of spec... not as stretched as yours though (245/40 F and 275/35 R). Yes, I'd order stock sized tires to replace if I were in your shoes (considering that you have the OEM wheels).

Same. Go OEM size.

FF. W212 E63 M156 non-pano 18" P2 ParkT NightV (gone but will be missed).
Definitely curious about previous owner's reasons for going 225. Ditto, I would go back to 255 on oem wheels.
