Resurrecting an old thread here but how's the feedback been on these 14-15 e63S models ? I don't see any major repairs popping up yet , as im sure there's some with over 100k at this point ? Have one semi local to me with around 58k mi on it at a very attractive price . Coming from an 05 E55 i'm trying to swallow if it's worth selling the 55 and footing over another 20k lol. I guess I should go and drive it first and rethink it to get the best idea . But interior , awd , hp & overall facelift all seem to be substantial upgrades. Anyone made the switch/and or have or had both cars ? Ext. warr. looks like it would have to be in order. Any info is appreciated , thanks

I think the 5.5 motors (M157 I think) has been pretty reliable. I have a 2014 and it's been great, but only 20k miles on it. I've had the aux battery go out which I think is common, but that's about it. With any benz with an air suspension, you can pretty much count on some of the air shocks going out at some point. We've had extended warranties on our GL550 and it's paid off so never a bad idea and they are pretty cheap.
If interested, I'll probably be getting out of my 2014 E63S here in a couple of months. Will probably only have 25k miles on it.
Yes these motors sound very solid . Yeah the extended warrs. are nice insurance lol . I will probably be looking more serious towards the end of the year .
16 E550 Cab, 2003 Ram bright red crewcab 4x4 we call Clifford :)
have the same motor in the ML63 and have had no issues... 41k miles... and yup just did the aux battery.... aint cheap and woulda done it myself but my arm was in a sling..
38k Miles here, bought it with 21k from a one owner off a lease.
So far (outside of TSBs and any general quirky issues this forum collectively gathers from other owners) it has been just oil changes, or adding the occasional quart here and there.
I personally would not entertain owning one of these puppies outside of warranty. I bought CPO and it has an unlimited mileage warranty through 12/2019. I feel the most comfortable with a certified MB warranty.
The car itself is great! I couldn't be happier with it. Probably would consider a new build for my DD over any other sedan out there in this market class as I get closer to warranty end.

Between some setbacks and lack of them for sale around here ... time flies . How is your 14 ?
Love the car, haven't had any major issues. Only thing I'd change is the transmission. Though, once my warranty is up late next year, I'm getting something different, maybe a new E63. Good luck on your hunt.
I have a 2015 with 70,000 miles bought it with 65k August 2018.
So far this is what I have had done
steering rack - from being towed by NYPS
Front control arms
turbo cooling lines
thermostat for check engine light
radiator hose ( left me stranded )
About 7 tires in the last 7 months
It looks like a lot but the previous owner did not take good care of the car and me being a past MB Service Advisor knowing the reliability of the car I took the risk of getting it with the mileage it has and I have no regrets. The car is currently at the bodyshop getting carbon fiber goodies added. When it returns I will be doing the follow :
B Service
Rear Diff Service
Coolant Flush
HVAC Service and fill up refrigerant
Transmission Service
Spark Plugs
My 2014 has 24k miles. Only thing that broke was thermostat got stuck open around 23k miles, triggering CEL and warranty replacement. And I got the timing chain tensioners replaced and check valves added per service bulletin.
cps replaced
tensioner chains
rattle fix
Squealing grill fix
2x airmatic failures fixed
recall on engine bay item
both cloth/wire intake tubes replaced
front parking sensor pushed inward; fixed
two rims bent - fixed with wheel/tire warranty
still on original brakes
all service via benz via service plans
on second set of tires - conti DWS (love them)
second ecu tuned by ams
still on original plugs - they get replaced this summer under service plan
My 2014 has 60k km (approx 37k miles) and has been pretty reliable. The only two "fixes" have been the creaking pano roof (problem has never returned after it was fixed 4 years ago) and the whistling front grill issue (which again has not returned after it was fixed 4 years ago). Other than that, it's just been brake pads, tires, other regular maintenance and a lot of fuel. I have a 7/100k km ELW and haven't used it yet for anything.
Wow a lot of you guys seem pretty paranoid about owning these AMG's out of warranty. I've had plenty with high miles and tuned aside from general maintenance and small repairs they've all been solid. Set aside a few grand for emergency repairs, one of my AMG's just hit 160k miles its been tuned for 100k miles and I drive them hard. Keep up with preventative maintenance there's no reason these cars can't make it to 200k miles.

Yeah sounds good. My 55 is only at 114k , I agree nothing major to date on the w211 . The m157 sounds solid as well. Only thing we don't hear much about is the mct trans. assuming the longevity is good , haven't heard otherwise .

youre calling the kettle black: this is the Internet -- it's rife with paranoia and conspiracy theories.
Forums as you know are usually saturated with disgruntled people or people with new problems with their cars and obviously doesn't reflect the vast majority of owners.
Also your personal experience of a low maintenance and reliable w211 doesn't necessarily confer the same predictable future to a guy who is buying a used m157 that we have no idea how it was maintained or driven. When things go wrong they go wrong bad and is expensive. Airmatic problems, for example, are expensive as are pano roof problems which are far more common than m157 engine problems.
thats why I like to give people a list of know issues on this platform vs giving the blanket statement that they should just set money aside and it'll all work out. I see where you're coming from and statistically you are correct.
