2015-17 E63 AMG must have options
Hello,
I joined the forum today. I am a Porsche fan and own a Cayenne Turbo. My wife is a Mercedes fan and drives C300. We are looking to replace her car with something really fun. We were considering a Panamera GTS/Turbo. Earlier today I drove 2018 E43 and E63. Followed by 2016 E63. Mighty impressed with both E63s. At this moment, a slightly used 2015-17 E63 AMG would work for us. Could you please advise the must have options? Goal is to make the car really sporty. So options like alcantara, contrast stitching, bigger wheels, sport exhaust, sport suspension etc. Also, creature comforts are important like keyless start, nice sound system, panoramic roof etc. I am pretty familiar with Porsche options. Not much familiar with E63 options. Please advise.

You need to do some research.
Try this site to see what options were around:
https://www.motortrend.com/cars/merc.../e-class/2017/
Change the year for different years. Pick the AMG model and then go to features to see what the options were. Even though AMG had lots of options available, you hardly ever find them with all of them.
Use a vin decoder like this one to see what the option codes a particular vin has:
https://www.datamb.com/
You can also read the brochures to see MB had to say about that particular year.

The only option that I would consider a "must have" is the 360 degree camera. The front air dam rides quite low and seeing the position of the car protects the air dam from curbs.

Hi, most E63's of those years are fairly loaded except for the Drivers Assistance Package...this gives lane tracking, radar cruise control that will fully brake to stop completely if someone slams the brakes in front of you, and blind spot monitoring. The 360 camera is a must...it gives a top down and multiple other visualizations of the car when parking. Agreed with the need for the front camera since curbing the bumper is an easy thing to do. Keyless go is a must as well as the automatic trunk opener and closer...once you have it, it is hard to go back...Lol. Panoramic Roof is also a must IMO...it make the car look great and is a nice visual feature from the inside. Hard to find, but the Bang & Olufsen sound is great and the carbon ceramic look amazing plus cause no brake dust on the wheels. Good luck and welcome to the AMG world!

As an owner of the last true beast w212 E63S MY2016 I can attest you will not be disappointed in acquiring this MB.

Thanks folks for the input. I have also been researching options and can take a little help from the forum.
Is sport exhaust an option or standard feature?
Likewise, is sport suspension an option or standard?
Any handling option similar to Panamera's PDCC - Dynamic Chassis Control, or PTV - torque vectoring?

It sounds like the exhaust on the 2014-16 E63's is louder in the "sport" and "sport +" settings (not sure why) but is not controllable like on the 2018+. The suspension can be "tightened up" via a button on the console. Lastly, the 2014-16 have a fixed 34/66 awd (not dynamic). The 2018+ have a continuously variable awd system. I hope this helps.

I just joined the club so fairly recent search before that.
First two key questions:
1. Where are you based? US?
2. Wagon or sedan? Wagon is a pure unicorn in the vehicular world since Audi does not import their RS6 and there is no similar BMW for sale (closest is the M550i or d, nether of which are avail in the US). The practicality of a wagon (esp for kids and/or sporty lifestyle (skiing or other "bulky" sports)) while beating 99% of cars on the road both in a straight line AND when the road turns is unmet. Yes, you have the Trackhawk, but it's a $100k rental car interior. And yes you have the X5M and the G63/65 and other MB AMG SUVs. We are not an SUV family.
For wagon panoramic roof is standard, and it's great.
Only other must have option is the Driver's assist package (as mentioned above).
When it comes to taste, personally I wanted CF interior (a $2,500 option as new). Many, if not most, cars don't have that. I then wanted brown (if I could) leather. Most cars have black or silver (light, almost white, and really only(?) in southern cars) leather.
Carbon brakes are great, but rare.
For most colors except silver, I think midnight package looks the best (blacked out trim). CF exterior package is also cool, but rare.

rj, No PDCC equivalent or similar but honestly don't miss it. All the other things you mention are standard like keyless, pano roof, etc. I'm a long time Porsche guy and have really enjoyed this foray into Mercedes.
Here are the options available (other than paint, leather and four wheel choices), might have missed one or two.
AMG Carbon Ceramic Braking System
Carbon Fiber Trim
AMG Exterior Night Styling Package
Bang & Olufsen Sound
Rear Seat Entertainment System
Heated Rear Seats
AMG Parking Assist Package
Driver Assistance Package with Distronic
Laminated Acoustic Glass
Note the 16 model year included some upgrades to the transmission for smoother shifting and a new Command interface and features.
They are great cars/wagons. Selling my Wagon if interested (16, 22k miles, Obsidian Black / Black, MB CPO). PM me if interested and best of luck with your search!

I am looking for a sedan - E63S or Panamera GTS/Turbo. E63S is a total monster with 5 seat practicality. On the other hand, there are too many E350s on the road and somewhat stocky. Panamera may not be as fast but is more distinctive. And its road presence is great. Below is a related discussion, many points about M5 apply to E63

In the end, both are excellent choices. I have to make a decision in 1-2 months. That is the hard part

It shouldn’t be hard to find a fully loaded version since topping off an MB doesn’t double the price like it does a P-car. But after 3 AMGs and a few more MBs if you count the gf’s cars, I do have a must avoid. MB can’t seem to make a pano roof to save their life. Every one I’ve had or test drove creaked and rattled. Not to mention in the AZ desert heat, that see through paper thin cover that comes with the pano just isn’t enough, they also look horrible from the outside when open. Give me the moonroof every time!

just differently tuned exhausts I think. And the '18 sound great as well!

I think you misunderstood me.
Yes, different motor, larger displacement and turbos in the Hot V formation. But, my point was more that the "loudness" (which is very hard to define for exhausts) is not related to engine configuration, but a design parameter defined and designed into the car by AMG. Just like the amount of snap, crackle, pop, blurb etc noises. If the latter would have been all the rage in the old "true 6.3l V8, pre turbo days", that engine could have sounded even more incredible.
Makes sense?

The basic E class is used as cab in many European countries. Doesn't that take away some of the pride in owning E63S? CLS, GranCoupe, Pana don't have this problem. Also MB and BMW have so many models these days that it reduces their charm. Even in online search, one has to select from a screen full of models and scroll sometimes.
These thoughts crossed my mind so I had to ask. With all due respect to the owners and fans..

The list by Signes is spot on. I wish my car came with a lot of what he listed. B&O is quite rare. Heres my window. One thing I wanted was exterior carbon fiber package (1&2). The front splitter and the rear diffuser is where it got tricky post purchase if I wanted to add. The side skirts, side mirrors and spoiler were the easiest to mod to get it to carbon fiber. Does anyone know if the W212 ever came with night view assist option?

Hmm, never heard that before. I actually recall that back in a test a few years ago they stated that the M5 did (as we all know) have the enhancement, but the E63 did not.
