2014s shifting into Reverse

I noticed this by accident.
I had my car in D reach over to the glove was rolling at the time no gas and I hit the gear selector and the car went into reverse.
I then check, in D no gas no brakes I can push the selector into R. No lockout safety of the brakes is needed.
I thought you needed to be on the brakes to go from D to R or is something wrong with my car.
I also noticed that I can stop the car very light brake pressure where my brake lights are off.

Damn! I hope this is NOT possible when one is going at 50mph! Not that I like the idea of this being possible at any speed when the car is already in motion one way or another.
As for the brake light thing. Not that I have tried it in this car, but in my previous cars, I did notice that such thing is possible (engagement of the brakes without brake lights coming on... enough to stop car from rolling)

Your brake sensor behind the pedal seems bad; time for a new one

Thank You Peter

Would that switch also be why I am able to enter R from drive without being on the brakes.
I am going to try this on a 2014 E550 if I have the same result.

If it were going into park, I would say a bad door pin

no; over 10mph or so there is a electronic lock out on most modern transmissions is my understanding ... someone correct me if I'm wrong on the 722.9

my Thought is that at some speed, perhaps over 10 miles an hour the energy of forward motion is enough to just snap the reverse gear like a twig so as to keep the car continuously in motion. Therefore the reverse gear at that speed is unlikely to be beneficial.

R lock

You dont have to have on the brakes by design so its okay, see attachment explaining R Lock........Im currently not able to get in reverse after driving. Already put on a new shifter, which is referenced N15/5 on the attachment. Looking at getting new conductor plate to fix, possibly some speed sensors. Does anyone have experience with this??... P Lock works fine so its not brake related.
