Respray on 2016 E63s

Water colors are single stage paints, that is no hardener is added. The water has to air dry out before something like a clear coat is added. I have a car that the trunk lid was painted with a water color base, and they likely didn't dry it very well, because after its first winter freeze it blistered. Water colors are junk paint no matter what anyone says, you would be better off with Rustoleum as a base coat than a water color. Quality paint and quality paint jobs run very high. I agree with the one fellow that says there is almost nothing to mask when doing a quality paint job, as the whole body is bare, that is how a factory paint job is done.

My previous 2015 E63 was in the body shop (at a local Chevrolet dealership) three times: rear bumper repainted after a hit/run in a parking lot, passenger side front and rear doors repaired and repainted after another parking lot incident, and driver's side front door and fender replaced after being torn off by a valet parking attendant. After lease turn-in, the car ended up at a dealership in Atlanta, where it's still for sale with a clean carfax, 1 owner, no accidents, no damage reported. The three body shop visits are on the carfax report, but reported as "vehicle serviced", at the Chevrolet dealership (no mention of body shop).
So, if you're looking at an obsidian black/black 2015 in Atlanta with 50k-ish miles and a clean carfax, buyer beware!
In my case, it is being handled as a comprehensive claim (damage cause to car by events that are out of your control). No police report was written, no notification to DMV and it won't affect my insurance premium.
Insurance likely won't report to CarFax, Body Shop will not report to CarFax and DMV was not notified so it is likely this won't appear on a CarFax. If it does, I am not worried as I plan on keeping the vehicle for some time.

The cost can vary quite a bit depending on where you have it done and the type of work done. An Maaco respray in Tucson, AZ is $499. A full strip parts/proper prep/competent spray can easily set you back $20K or more in Silicon Valley.
