Ran into a storm causing scrapes, scratches and road rash to the car. Having car resprayed to original factory color. Car had no body damage just paint so hope the respray comes out looking just like OEM. Body Shop is where local Mercedes Benz sends all their vehicles for repair so should be in good hands.
Anyone have a similar experience requiring a respray of their E63s?

Please be careful of the shop your dealer uses from great experience the dealer uses the cheapest shop possible. Basically the dealer sends the shop work in return the shop cuts them a deal. By cutting them a deal the shop will use cheaper materials in order to save money due to the fact of charging the dealer a lower rate. Ask for a warranty for a minimum of 5 years on paint flaking, clear coat peeling and clear coat fading. Make sure your bumpers have flex additives or the rock chips will happen much much quicker. Also check for bondo scratch marks after 2 months baking in the sun. If the job was done right it won’t show if it was done half *** you will see where some repairs where done. Seems like they did a good job but definitely go over it. Also factory paint should not be mirror flat . If it is that means they wet sanded alot of the clear coat to remove imperfections. Factory paint has orange peel. Where the clear coat has a minor resemblance to what an orange looks like on the outside
Where were you 2 months ago? Well, the points you raise seem valid but the car has already been painted and for the most part, it looks good after they made a few corrections. Interesting enough, most body shops I spoke to would not work on a MB, especially ones that are approved by the insurance company.
As far as the mirror finish; the car is presently at a vendor that I use for paint correction, PPF (protection against the rock chips) and ceramic coat (independent of the dealer or body shop)

I can't say much for dealer shops. The one I use is MB Certified, as well as being Lexus, BMW and Audi certified. It is owned by one of the major auto dealer conglomerates in the area, and I trust the guys I know there. I've had other work done at dealer-owned shops and had mixed results. The work will speak for itself. My car is now almost 3 1/2 years out from its repaint and aside from being ready for paint correction this year, all is well. (Oh, and I AM picky. In my younger days, I managed one of the largest Hot Rod and Custom Car shows in the country.)
It can be done.
It can be done.

Its not a dealer bodyshop it’s the shop the dealer prefers to use. They have an arrangement. Sometimes on rare occasion you will have dealers that actually own a separate body shop. I own an auto body shop and specialize in high end vehicles and offer warranty work as where most shops will not do

No offense but pics online don't do justice to actually being there a foot away and looking at it in person, pics can look amazing and in person can reveal amazing imperfections.
i trust that if you think it's good -- then it is, glad you came out whole!

Yes, the pictures can't capture what the eye can see. badges (new emblems) getting re-installed tomorrow, then to the dealer for brake fluid change and pretty much done for now.
changed the engine air filter(s) plus cabin air filter over the holiday weekend so brake fluid essentially completes Service B

Going the Obsessed Garage way to maintain the paint quality and minimize the introduction of swirls.
Ordered the Kranzle unit and foam cannon to use for washing the car.

are you PPF'ng it or ceramic coating? i've had great results on 4 black/dark grey colored vehicles in the past 4 years with just CQuartz and mindful washing. very minimal...if any...swirling.

Funny isn't it....
Being in and around the industry for 40+ years, it's amazing how dealers are terrified of cars with lots of paintwork....but the reality is that all factory paint is a compromise...yes, even a Benz. Guys that have the skills to cut, buff and "flatten" one are hard to find...and when they get it right, it is amazing. She looks great. I do hope you got the DV tho...

After waiting 2 months for the paint to setup properly after the respray, I had the paint correction ppf and ceramic coat applied.
