$1500 for rear brakes and rotors from dealer
This is super high right?
What should I really be paying for rear brakes and rotors installed if I go with aftermarket parts and an Indy mechanic?
btw I have 30,000 miles on the odo and am on original brakes/rotors... fronts are still "green" and rears are "yellow"
thx

Depends on what type of rotors and pads you want and what to spend...
OEM type
Performance brand
Rotors drilled and slotted? or plain
Labor should not be all that much maybe and hour or so.
These are type of jobs one can do in their driveway or garage andsave a ton of $$

a local Indy was charging me $300 per axle to do brakes and rotors ... just for the labor

OEM rotors and pads for rear run about $700 from my research...$1500 seems like a lot of labor!

I would ask dealer to break it down for you.
What does this $1500 include?
What are the parts?
HOw much for the labor...
Then you can Negotiate maybe....
Maybe they are also doing other things like .... supplying really expensive cup of coffee while you wait?

The MB OEM rear rotor is around $175 each, but you can go with other options like these Zimmerman rear rotors from FCP (100 bucks each) and their MB rear pads (283 for set). The FCP price on the rear pads is a bit high, BUT you get their lifetime replacement warranty with these so in theory you would never buy rear rotors/pads again!
Rear Brakes:
Mercedes Disc Brake - Zimmermann 2124230412 - 2 total @ 102.65 each
Mercedes Disc Brake Pad - Genuine Mercedes 0004203400 1 total @ $283 each (is this 2 sets of pads per the picture, or only 1 pad/set)
FCP also has a front rotor option here that their site says FITS for a 14/15 E63S W212 and I've been emailing Kyle to confirm that since the rotor is also showing as a fit for the 07-11 E63 and some even older AMGs.
Front Brakes:
Mercedes Brake Disc - Brembo 2194210212 2 total @ $459 each (https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bra...210212#fitment)
Mercedes Disc Brake Pad - Genuine Mercedes 0004204400 - 1 total @ $361 each (is this 2 sets of pads per the picture, or only 1 pad/set)
If these parts from FCP do indeed fit / plug and play that would be awesome as for $1500 in parts you would have rotors/pads covered for the life of your car with FCPs lifetime warranty..... I was strongly considering the Girodisc's and getting them from the AM S guys who resell them...but if I can get these FCP guys to confirm this front rotor is a fit then i'm going that direction.
I've been researching these front rotor options for a week now and this is the best i've been able to find

Is a rotor replacement actually necessary at only 30K? I'm guessing this would be your first brake job? Is this an MB spec thing? I never had rotors cut nor changed out of necessity in my previous cars (not MB's) and I never felt any vibrations after swapping in new pads.

This sounds more sensible (too many "that's what she said" jokes). So many threads on "How many miles are my rotors supposed to last"?

my response when someone tells me the rotor/pad needs to be changed.
did you measure it?
what does the micrometer say?
without data, recommendations are only personal feelings. aka bull****.

The reason the swap rotors and pads is that's the only way to guarantee zero vibrations etc.
Usually - for most cars and using street pads (not track pads) - a set of rotors last two set of pads. Give or take. But then you have to bed in the new pads correctly so they conform to the grooves and ridges of the old rotor. Or they will squeal. That takes time and longer test drive.
Hence - as a dealer - do rotors and pads and there is much less chance of a rework.

I just purchased the RacingBrake upgrade (SL65 front rotors) kit for my 2012. But they have a direct factory replacement of four rotors and two axle sets of pads for around 2200. And this is definitely something you can do in your driveway.
First link is for the stock size, second link is for the upgraded front rotors.

Too many to list
I just changed both front and rear pads this weekend with some Ferodo pads from FCPeuro. All rotors were within specs and vibration free so I didn't bother to change them. The Ferodo pads were cheap compared to the OE Textar pads. Install was quick and easy and after bedding them in, the Ferodos provided smooth and vibration-less braking.

I live in CA and thats a normal dealer quote. However changing brakes on these cars is really simple even for a novice and you can save a bunch doing it yourself. But if you do not want to I also understand, I pay an indy shop to do mine. If you are bent on having OEM then get the OEM parts and install yourself or have a shop do it. If you just want good brakes theres good aftermarket options for lightweight 2 piece rotors so thatll actually save you some money while giving you similar if not better braking performance.

And why rotors at 30,000? That’s a bit soon in my opinion, i agree with a previous post that rotors usually last 2 sets of pads.

Peter, I’d gladly help you swap them, we can knock it out in an hour or so. Parts are $500 at most (probably even cheaper as i have friends at the local dealer). Where do you live?

If this is truly the first set of pads, there is no way that the rotor is worn and needing replacement. If it's not very wavy or cracked, i wouldn't bother, especially the rears. If you track the car or often brake aggressively, i can maybe (and just maybe) see the fronts needing replacement with the first set of pads.

Yep first set of pads; bought the car with 80 miles on it; my rotors and pads are still green per the dealer if that's any testament to how I drive ... highway and baby the car always ... never heavy braking never tracked

Micrometers aren't that expensive, in the $9-$16 range. Usually only 25mm though. Seems like the rears are supposed to be a minimum of 24mm and are 26mm when new. There's lots of places to get a rotor, rockauto has Centric for $105 a rotor so it can definitely be done cheaper than at the dealer.
