First post looking at 2011 E63 AMG

I'll be going to look at this vehicle next week. Their price is high (obviously ). Just have a couple questions.

1. What is a reasonable offer for this car? I'm thinking it's a $25k car maybe
2. How can i verify this car did or did not have the infamous head bolt isssue without trusting the dealer?
3. I will be buying a warranty either through MB or a 3rd party. What kind of costs can be expected with such a warranty and what are some 3rd party companies you guys would recommend?
4. What do you wish you had checked before you bought your used E63?

Obviously 82k miles is quite a bit but i ain't skeered! I'll be using it as my daily and piling miles on in a hurry just want to make sure i'm making the right deal vecause I won't hesitate to walk away from the wrong one.

Vehicle in question:

Obviously the car has a TON of service records and always serviced at MB dealer hence why i'm not acared of the miles. Thanks in advance for the help!

Take the vin and ask any benz dealership if the headbolts have been replaced; I would start with the selling dealers service department and just state that you're an interested customer

Can't tell you much about the car, but I bought my car from MB of Knoxville, great dealership and if you don't have a salesperson yet, ask for Joel Lay, he's been there forever and is a stand-up guy.

1. 80k miles isn't very high. I had a 2010 e63 I bought with 100k miles.
2. There's a certain engine serial number (60658) which if yours is greater than that, the headbolts are fine. The 2011 and onwards car had the revised bolts. Decoding your vin shows engine serial of 64819. You're more than in the clear.
3. Warranty is a good idea but also consider how well the company will process the warranty without undue bs. Most of us here will suggest the MB warranty. For the age of this car, they might only cover engine/powertrain but that's what you're interested in.
4. Function of the rear airmatic and how well the bellows are keeping pressure without leaking.

In addition to the head-bolts some have cam wear since it is a solid tappet engine. I run a little extra Lucas zinc additive in the 5w40 oil to help protect the cams. I would rather have damage to the cats than a cam problem. .

I paid $27.5k for my 2010 3 1/2 years ago with 102k. ~170k on it now. I'm sort of busy right now, so I hate to not be able to summarize, so I'm just going to copy and paste my document I have saved on my phone where I keep up with everything I've done to the car over the years.

Agreed in principle to purchase the car for $25,900. Best warranty MB could offer is from a 3rd party 30k miles for roughly $3500. I'd prefer to have at least 50k miles as that will be good for about 2 years for me (I know I drive a LOT).

Anyone who has experience purchasing a 3rd party warranty feel free to chime in with recommendations and suggestions.

Car drives like it's got 20k miles on it, but has a couple cosmetic issues (both bumpers small nicks and scratches and a curbed wheel). Also need recommendations on aftermarket exhaust that will wake her up a little bit.

Thanks for the replies and helping me go in as an informed buyer! You guys rock!💪💪

Try Members Choice. They paid out in total nearly $30k on my old 2011. I believe they are headquartered in Chicago. But not sure. Look them up. They may have changed names through an acquisition in the last year or so. I got the warranty through my credit union for about an even $4k. It was for 7years/70k miles as I recall. Best warranty I ever bought!

Good Luck
