wagon rear hatch mechanism

wagon rear hatch mechanism
for a s212 e63 wagon. I have this clunk noise at the end of the rear hatch opening. Looks like a latch mechanism locking. Anyone else's e63 have this? I'd like to compare if it's normal.
Also, would other owners be able to take a picture of the driver side motor arm? I feel like there should be a rubber sleeve/insulator vs it being exposed. Thank you.

I had that clunk too. Came from the left side when the hatch was almost completely open. Dealer replaced the motor under warranty but advised that it’s normal to hear a small clunk, which is what I have now.

I see. Dealer also replaced the hatch motor. I was rather skeptical of their claims since none of the other cars with a hatch in the showroom had that clunk. Here's a pic of my hatch latch arm, thought there was supposed to be an insulator sleeve?

Happy to help. And btw, I had the exact same worry when I bought mine CPO. Asked the dealer to check it out under CPO warranty and was told that the click/clunk is normal (something to do with the pressure of the mechanism).

I've also got a click/clunk just as the door is 85% of the way open, it slows down for a split second, clunk, then finishes. Was going to bring it up next service but sounds like it's relatively normal.
