Are the brakes terrible on the W212 E63?
Hey guys,
I know the W212 is a heavy car but my brakes heat up and lose braking very fast if I drive the car hard.
I did tear a brake line once because it was touching the rear tire, don't know why, but I replaced it and bled the system but I didn't bleed the ABS so maybe there's some air in the system?
Also, my pads aren't the best I think they need to be changed because they're squealing and my rotor is a bit lipped.
Do you guys reckon if I do a full brake fluid flush/bleed (including ABS with Castrol Racing Fluid) and change my pads to EBC Yellow Stuff and get new rotors the braking will improve or is this just a very heavy car and iron discs are crap and it will lose braking after a few hard brakings?
I would love CCB brakes but they're too expensive.

I have no complaints, car stops on a dime, I think the brakes are incredible for hard “road” driving.
My ML63 on the other hand feels heavy. Going to be switching rotors and putting a good set of pads coupled with some braided lines as I don’t know what the previous owner was running

FWIW, my e63s brakes are amazing - feel and stopping power. I am always an advocate of OE pads. Many like aftermarket for dust purposes, but I have not found one that performs as well on the street and doesn't create a ton of dust. That said, I have not tried EBC or Akebono (or whatever they are called)....I have tried Porterfield and Hawk - liked both.

You should consider a big brake kit, theres one sold by SoloMotorsports for 1400$, includes pads brake rotors and 2 custom brackets for bigger rotors. Stock rotors are 360mm but the upgrade rotors are 390mm 2piece brembos, C63 BS and Sl65’s use that rotor as far as i know.

I have no complaints about my brakes during heavy street use. I couldn't stand the dust though and got Girodisc pads and 2-piece rotors all around. This was far cheaper than stock in the front, more expensive in the rear, and saved a lot of unsprung weight. There was a noticeable improvement in ride quality, even with the crap PZeros.

Installed EBC yellows, on my first long mountain drive. Pads are seated, seem to be much more aggressive compared to stock pads. Dust is about the same. Been driving the car very hard for 4 hours in the Austrian Alps. Been hard on a fully loaded wagon in 100 degree weather. Car took the beating easily. It's just to heavy in those nasty switchbacks, compared to my 911.

Not yellow 😜 but during seating runs, the discs turned blue, where the pads made contact.
Not from heat of course. I didn't believe the instructions at first but it was a great indicator what was going on. Took about 200 miles of easy driving until pads seated fully.

I put this in another thread the other day. Seems good for this one.
Hi All
Finally got serious about doing brakes on the 14.
Looked at the places in links, and hunted for the part numbers. Brembo is oem supplier, I’ve used their stuff for decades.
Rotors
Found Front Brembo 2pc rotors 219 421 0212 which corresponds to Brembo 09.9764.23. $702.00/pair
Www.newparts.com, I called, spoke with Dave
Rear Brembo one piece 212 423 0412 which corresponds to Brembo 09.A822.11 $161.45/pair
So, F/R rotors free shipping for $966.90.
Called this am got tracking 2hr later.
No relation, new customer, yadayada.
Pads
Brembo pads oem supplier stock equivalent
Front P50127N $58.85/pair
Rear P50052N $44.60/pair
Newparts.com again.
Buybrakes.com has Stoptech sale,
Fronts I used 309.12910 $186.68/pair
I track so needed more than EBC Redstuff. These have better specs and heat range than Yellow stuff, and are pretty reasonable, good rep with track friends.
So, hope this update helps, the previous posts did, thanks guys.

I did a hard brake from about 120mph once with my E63S and by the end of the that run, the brakes were really faded and soft. That was the only time i ever push the brakes to close to there limits but didnt feel good. She is a heavy girl, thats for sure.

OK, I guess I have a problem then.
I bled the system like a normal car from that valve thing and starting from the furthest to the closest. Again though, I didn't do anything to the ABS pump. I didn't have access to a STAR at the time.
I'm gonna sort it out properly soon.
Sounds like you still have air in your brake lines. How did you bleed the system after you damaged / replaced the brake line?

The steel brakes on the e63 aren't terrible at all from a performance standpoint but they are terribly priced.

My 212 always stopped fine but it takes keeping good pads on it and rotors, after about the first 30K.
