W212 E63 Wheel Alignment

Hey guys,

I wanna get my wheel alignment done. This might seem straight forward but I had my alignment done about 7 months ago and the shop that did it f***** it up loyally. The car chewed through a new rear left tire after 3 weeks. This makes me weary about letting anyone do the W212 E63s alignment.

Is it that that shop was retarded and didn't know anything about alignment or is there something special about the E63s alignment like the springs at the front air at the back or something?

I don't wanna go to Mercedes and pay $250 (it's how much it is where I live) for an alignment if I don't have to.

What is your experience with alignment?

Thanks fellas.

I would pay the $250 for an alignment at the dealership. I’ve had alignments done else where to save some money but I always ended back at the dealership for another alignment after.

You need a shop that's familiar with the platform. I took my car to NTB locally here in Houston. I was assured the tech they were using was the most experienced one they had.
I was in the shop and watched him follow the procedures to a T... and he still would have messed up the alignment if I wasn't there to witness it.

When doing the alignment the machine prompted the mechanic to set the suspension in "Sport" mode. I drove into the shop in the "comfort" setting.

As he was setting up all the hardware he went into the car and put the transmission into "sport" mode, not the suspension. The rear height didn't lower, which told me it wasn't configured correctly.

Had I not seen this, he would have proceeded to adjust the alignment incorrectly, even though it would appear correct and "in the green" on the printout.

I've since been driving my car for the last year with no sign of wear on the tires. Had I not noticed his screw up, I'd be on a new set by now due to premature wear.

Clear as mud?

I would pay it too. The alignment is also based on the height of the car. Legit Street Cars has a pretty good youtube video showing how MB does the alignment.

My north Atlanta dealer charged me a bit under $200 including “camber bolts”. Caster and camber were pretty close but toe was way out.
