Just going to leave this below for a nice video showing (a very illegal) but impressive Cannonball Run with a 2015 E63 S AMG. Granted this car was highly modified, but still impressive none the less. A question to the Wagon group - interesting that they went with a Sedan, eh ?

I can only imagine that they went with a sedan just for the "blend into the crowd" factor. Or perhaps they wanted some measure of a firewall between them and the auxiliary fuel cell?

 

hilarious that they went to the trouble of using vinyl to make it NOT look like an E63 (or Merc, for that matter)....but kept the Alpha 9 stickers on the doors. hahahahaha

pretty impressive! think the car was tuned by AMS and apparently even they experienced some misfires which they state was due to fuel quality - that seems to plague AMS tunes based on owner feedback on these boards more so than the other tunes on the market like Renntech, EC,

 

i think even the ex-owner of ams driving knew they was gonna be misfires with the ams tune 😂

My hands sweat going anywhere near 100mph... can’t imagine 26 straight hours of this! Those guys must carry their ***** in wheelbarrows.

Clearly they took a sedan due to the fuel cell. Much better to have some separation from fumes and potential leakage. ......

But maybe most importantly - I believe a sedan is about 400 lbs lighter and has a lower Cd value (less drag).

I thought this was great. I'm surprised they didn't go for the E63 wagon and bigger fuel cells.

I feel fuel cells (Adding to cars fuel capacity) is cheating.

But I guess this event does not really have any rules other then start and stop points.

Pretty awesome, love the details on their countermeasures. I'm curious about the "plane crash avoidance system", it could be a ADS-B receiver or a "Portable collision avoidance system" (like a Zaon unit, see Wikipedia). Both of those systems depend on the aircraft having a transponder switched on (or in the case of ADS-B, either an ADS-B-out device or ATC radar coverage which may not work down low).
Perhaps it's time I upgrade from my old V1 to an Escort 360c :-)

 

I remember hearing someone talking about the fact that they waited a year to announce the record because of the statute of limitations for the offenses. Kind of surprising that no state has a longer one, but who knows!
