KW HAS settings - Questions Before I Install
Hi all,
I have in hand a KW HAS kit for my 2014 E63S. I read through many of the previous posts on it and am comfortable I can do the install as I have done several spring/strut jobs in the past.
I do have a question that I couldn't find an answer for about setting ride height and suspension settings (in car).
As you all know, the ride height in the rear is higher in comfort mode and lower in sport, etc. Thus, if I set the links to look good in comfort mode, wont it be too low if I switch in to sport+ mode?
I guess my question is, Do you set the rear ride height to look good in sport+ or comfort? I don't know if that all makes sense, but I would like to know how you all did it before I install this weekend to avoid adjusting it 10,000 times.
TIA, Tim

I had this same question when I lowered my 2013 wagon and found that only the Airmatic cars (mostly CLS’s) lowered themselves in Sport/Sport+. The rear air system in the E63 wagons is really just a Self-Leveling system where the stiffness but NOT the ride height is affected by the suspension setting. I tested this on my car to be sure a few different ways including a go pro camera set on the rear fender gap at speed.
I still had to adjust the rear links three times over the course of a month to get it where I wanted it to average - because the nature of the rear air system is to fluctuate ride height depending on the day or temp or whatever - but they do fluctuate on their own by about .75” There was recently a bunch of comments about this on BAT why some wagons photograph higher or lower in the back, it just depends on the day

I too had this question. I posted it along with a picture of my snapped adjustable link. Magno, how did you get it off w/o breaking it? I had to adjust the driver's side and as I was prying it off it snapped. I replaced it with the spare that comes with the kit, but, I still need to adjust it some more. I was afraid to break this one too so before attempting it again, I preemptively purchased a set of metal ones from eBay.

Rehabguy, I pry with a large flat blade screwdriver against a putty knife. It’s easy after doing it a few times. I have the eBay metal ones though. When I put them back on I give it a tap with a small ball peen hammer to make sure it’s on tight (with the back of the plastic arm supported - that’s the part you really don’t want to break)

The instructions don't specifically say, but i would set the right height in sport or sport +, since both are the same driving height, either will do. Sport suspension mode is also the recommend setting for wheel alignment per AMG.

Just sharing my broken KW adjustable link:
Thanks for your response and feedback. I might try this again this weekend. I will use WD40 before I start prying this time (I used it to get the spare link on the car as I pressed it on w/ a pair of pliers... didn't think to apply WD40 to try and take it off)
That's what I suggested to the mechanic I had install the kit for me. But, how do you "set height in S or any other mode"? Once you shut off the car to work on it, doesn't it automatically revert back to C? Unless you put your car on a lift and work under it while it's running?

What I am understanding is that you need to remove
from the car to make adjustment. Remove one side only. These are not turn turnbuckle design where once install you can turn the center of the barrel to make them longer or shorter.
I want to install a set to look like I am in S when in C mode but ride like C mode. I guess the Ebay one are pretty good

I have the same setup - KW HAS with adjustable links in the back.
Links are set for aesthetically pleasing height in "Sport" mode - middle ground between Comfort and S+
Highly recommend Ghost Motorsports made links - high quality and easy to adjust.

Looks great. That is about what I want mine to look like.....any idea how much drop you went on the front (or the measurements you use to set the spring perch at?). I am hoping to adjust once and be done....

Front is about 3/4" lower than factory springs measured from the "floor" to the edge of the fender.
KW HAS is set to max height, never touched it again.
Hope this helps...

Also how do you leave the car is sport mode while installing the HAS kit? Would turning the key off, not put the car in C- mode ?
Anyone knows the torque specs for the front strut/spring reinstall, there are three 5 nuts ( 3 on the top, and 2 at the bottom?
Thanks
