E63S 2016 brake replacement at 20K miles?
if you have steel brakes it's not nearly that much money
whats the thickness of the front and rear pads ... rears go well before the fronts
and finally WHAT sources are you reading?? Check out the sticky I have on the main page "compilation of e63 issues" there are good links on brakes
i have my 2014 since brand new and still don't need brakes or rotors ... I drive mixed performance and garage it for the winter, have 36k miles on it ...

$12k is for full, dealer priced carbon brake job. Which is at 50-100k miles (depending on driving style etc).
Steel brakes are a fraction of that.
usually you just need to change the pads. the CB rotors should last to 100K unless it is damaged or cracked.
I measured the rotors and none were anywhere near the service limit, so it was a pads-only job for about $700 in parts using genuine MB pads (hate the dust, love the all-weather performance, I have found this to be true with all of my german cars and this car is no exception). Replaced the pads and sensors at 38k and I expect they'll make it another 30-40k before they need changing based on our driving. Very driving conditions dependent.
$12k is hilarious. If the CCB's need changing at 20k miles it's because the car has been tracked a ton, or somebody's been hitting the rotors with a hammer

The job is pretty straight forward, with the most unique tool being a large hex (wanna say 8mm or 10mm?
FWIW, I measured my EBC Reds before installing and the fronts were at 16mm, while my used pads that were JUST brushing the pad sensor were at 11mm.

I am really really bad at anything DIY and car related.
Anyone knows of a good independent mechanic in the Boston area? My local MB dealer has a very good service dept but I doubt they will touch any part that is not MB because of liability issues.

I read on another forum that someone that had CCB changed the rotors to normal steel ones, but kept the same caliper that was used (orange) for the carbon setup. Which I thought was different from the non CCB calipers. When I look side by side they are in fact a different shape and how the pads are changed. Is that even possible to do? Use steel rotors with the ccb calipers and different pads? Seems sketchy as hell to me.
I know Porsche guys will remove the CCB setup, buy a steel setup w/corresponding calipers and then use that. When it's time to sell they put on the CCB setup and call it a day.
