For those thinking about tuning, under warranty
As they say - you gotta be ready to pay if you play.....
Ugh - feel for the owner
Yes, we all know, have heard or read about, owners who have received warranty work even with tuned engines, but here is one example of someone that didn't.
I know I will wait until my warranty is over to tune.

Car had custom tune with airbox spacers only as power mods (I even used stock filters with the airbox spacers), I did the full AMS cooling system but I doubt that contributed to any failures.
Had to pay for an engine swap, but a few months into it, decided to get rid of the car for a W213 instead..... contemplating tuning that too. Lol gotta pay to play I guess

One of the selling points by Renntech is that they are “the tuning choice MB Dealerships” work with and back their products with a “rock solid warranty”.
Given this car had a RT tune, what is their position here? Did they not attempt to resolve the issue with their rock solid warranty and work with the dealership as their tuning choice? Either the owner of the car or RT is BS’ing, would love to know more.

I can tell you the answer to Renntech/MB relationship is nothing like Dinan/BMW.
When I got status R'ed, I had the Renntech tune

I spoke to a RT authorized MB dealer (whatever the hell that means, almost a false inducement as far as warranty coverage goes) and they gave me the grand sales speech. At the conclusion of it, the fine print came out and they said if I wanted to proceed with a RT tune I would have to sign a waiver releasing the dealership from any claims. So much for that great relationship with it’s dealers - more like MB saying “not sure what my drunk friend just told you but...”
I didn’t actually read or see the waiver, so I can’t speak to the specifics. But in my experience when someone puts a waiver in front of you a lot of the risk just got offloaded onto you. This is just more evidence that no matter what the sales pitches are, if you tune keep some very liquid assets on hand to deal with the consequences.

Spend the cash on a driving class, track day, flat paint wrap, new wheels, hookers and blow in Miami - whatever makes you happy and enjoy one of the coolest cars on the market (esp the wagons of course....)
