Purchasing used e63s (NEED HELP)
Hey guys new to this forum
I’m currently looking at an 2014 e63s amg 50k miles for $43k at a private dealership and the factory warranty is about to run out. I know the previous owners have tuned and ran thru the car.
I spoke to the dealer about extended warranty through Mercedes and he said it could range all the way to 13k for just 2 years. Also because of the previous owners bringing the car in for multiple services and other issues.
Example: Biggest one He had fixed was fuel related. High/low pressure fuel pump, fuel rail, injectors, etc. but no out of pocket cost which was about 30k repair? during that problem the car stayed at Benz for at least 8 months till they got it back up and running. Had to go through affalterbach for the warranty work.
is it worth buying this car?

Could be wrong but I’ve read it before - if you don’t buy from a MB dealership you cannot extend the warranty through MBUSA. Some people swear by their 3rd party warranty though.
I would run like hell from that car. Too many other cars out there with clean records, why mess around with the town *****. Even at a discount, you have no idea if the tune was a “safe or reputable” one and could up spending multiples of your original savings.
Stout cars but keep looking.

So what would you consider a safe e63s to buy? I’m looking at a few on eBay at the moment and at other dealerships that are out of state from me since there’s none else where I’m at.
The one I’m looking at are currently 40-50k miles on them.

Yeah - I would say to avoid that one. 8 months at the repair shop is insanity.
Post the link to the car or the VIN please so the rest of us can avoid it?
Also - have you gotten to the negotiating stage with any of them yet? I am close, but haven't found a car with the options combo I am looking for yet. Wondering how much of a lowball is reasonable given the current environment.

Here’s a non-S in your price range, CPO. You’d have to comb the local MB dealers for their non-CPO inventory. It might take some time and you may have to travel or have it shipped (I shipped mine from Chicago, live in Washington D.C.) so just have some patience. Plan ahead and wait for those 2018’s to come off leases get this year and next, should be a bunch and with the economy in the crapper you might get a really good one in the high 50’s.
Good luck!

2014 Mercedes E63 AMG
I would also pass on it.......unless you have a good warranty....... I purchased my 2014 E63 amg S from a dealership and it had only a few months left on warranty. it was a deal breaker for me if I can't have another extended warranty on the car. I paid about $10K for a 3 years repair warranty, 5 years wheels and tires warranty, and 3 years of service warranty.........These cars are great if you keep up with service, but like all German vehicles, repairs are very expenives.
I searched over 6 months for mine.
this is my second AMG vehicle so I know somewhat how much repairs cost to keep the vehicle running.......my first AMG was a 2002 AMG E55 CLK.......another great car

I'm trying to sell my 2014 E63 wagon to get into a W213 but I'm trying to figure out a starting point to price it. Would love to get low $40's on a quick sale but not sure if that's within range...my Odometer may hit 70K in the next week or so.

When I was looking, I found all the advertised cars were not as good as all the non advertised ones fresh into dealers. The good ones would come in on trade on a Friday and sold by Monday - I know - I found the "perfect" one and they said "it's getting looked at and cleaned up, they will price it Monday if you want to come in then." Monday it was gone: "Sorry sold to friend of the dealer".
After missing two good ones the hard way (thinking too long) I finally found a low miles one owner, still in factory warranty. Bought it with max extended and CPO on the spot.
"You don't want to drive it?"
"Nope."
Pass on the story cars. Pounce on a good one.

P.S. I wouldn't be scared of any car they will CPO and extend the warranty AT A GOOD DEALER. It's their problem if anything happens.
At a bad dealer, none of that will mean anything and everything will be your fault...
Do you have a GOOD dealer nearby? Service on these is frequent. I know my service guy by name, treat him nice and bring him cigars. Luckily my dealer rocks customer service.

if you are a USAA member there extended warranty is great - i bought that over the MB warranty - haven't had to use it yet, but Cust Service is great and know it is a quality product.

I am looking for an E63 currently. When I spoke with USAA, they said they no longer have the extended warranty product. I had their warranty on a past car - very worth it, they were awesome.

That one did look like a good one - I never followed up on it though. It appears to have been sold now.

This. USAA hasn't sold a warranty for years. Had it on my SL and would buy it again if they still offered the warranty.

Try CARFAX app?
I'm far, far from an expert here, but after searching 4 months using Autotrader and CARFAX apps, if you are ready to spend $44K, there are quite a few E63 AMG S-models available (28 on Autotrader as of today). There is one CPO 2015 in San Jose with 30k miles for $49K, and If you want to spend $55K : you can get 2016 CPOs or super low miles (there is a 2014 in NJ with 15k miles, single owner). I missed out on two 2016 CPO cars with 30k miles for $54K (one in NJ and one in Dallas). I ended up picking up a 2016 with 17k miles (I get it tomorrow) with 2 months of factory warranty left. I liked the CARFAX site because they only ist cars with CARFAX histories, so, for example, you can see stuff like "towed to dealer", and then its put up for sale (SCARY!). Also, you can see if it was maintained at an MB dealer for its whole life (or not). I called the dealer who maintained the one I bought and walked through the service history to reassure myself there weren't any huge, underlying issues. Its not foolproof, but shory of a PPI, its as much diligence as I could do.
There is a nice single owner car in TX at Zigler for $47.9K that has been listed for months....you can have a lot of fun browsing. Set the filters for whatever your preferences are and have at it.
And there is a white one with a branded title because it was taken back by MBUSA due to issues with the sunroof. I assume that's been fixed, and its taken a hit on value due to the title being branded, but you can test the roof is OK yourself, and get a pretty good deal. That one is a 2015 with 39k miles for $45.8K (in Chicago)
Also, if you like risk, there is a 2015, LOADED: ceramic brakes, B&O stereo, Distronic, heated rear seats, pano roof,,360 cameras AND a Renntech R2 intake kot for $54K, BUT, it is a Canadian car and history is murky. Pix look really nice though....
Just a note, I noticed you wrote the warranty on the 2014 you saw was just about up, the way MB counts warranty, its 4 years or 50K miles, whichever comes first, so the 2014 's warranty has likely expired in 2017 (assuming they took delivery in 2013).

I'm the one selling the e63 in chicago with the branded title...
It's at the dealer (on consignment) as the dealer is my neighbor/friend. (chicago auto place)
little history on the car
Bought with 19K miles, I'm the second owner
never modded, only "upgrade" is "green filters" for the airbox
oil changes every 5K miles, trans fluid and rear diff fluid replaced at 25K miles, I have this car serviced at a specialized benz shop (artisan motorenbau).
Since putting it on the market, been sitting in my climate controlled garage, take it out once in a blue moon to keep the battery and fluids moving.
Branded because of pano roof issues, originally a california car. was taken into benz dealer 3X for "creaking pano roof" and was a buyback.
Fixed per mercedes, and then auctioned off, and put for sale at perillo downers grove. Never had any mechanical problems
Creaking started again, (about 3-4 months into ownership) took it to westmont benz dealer, and they fixed it with new screws, there was a TSB for this specific issue, the creaking is totally gone since then.
Just went to the dealer (for the steering U bolt recall, had an alignment done there too), and had the engine mounts replaced, and the turbo coolant line replaced (was surprised that they had replaced the engine mounts). Can take pics of the invoice if needed.
Still having second thoughts on selling the car, cause I love it so much.
Here's the link to the listing: http://www.chicagoautoplace.com/vehi...il-id-35960415
new rear brakes and rotors, and new spark plugs and another trans fluid change will be done this month. (just bought the parts from FCP euro)
PM me for more information.
