Data Logger and App recommendations

Hi Guys,

I am starting to get more interested in understanding whats going on with my car at a deeper level, how different factors affect performance as well as the impact of different modifications. I would like to purchase a data logger to understand how the car is performing and what is happening as well as being able to view real-time data like boost, AITs etc.

What would you recommend? I think I need a data logger to plug into the OB2 and a phone app for real-time data. I see HPTuners is recommended. I have an iphone, any apps?

Also, any place to read about what data I should be looking at and how to interpret would be great. I have been just reading all the threads here and picking up what I can. This is mostly for fun/hobby. I am not planning on doing any crazy testing or mods (pure turbos for example), but do take part in the normal 1/4 mile, 1/2 mile, 60-130, 0-60 logging on dragy. I have my car tuned stage one ECU and TCU. Eventually would like to move to a flex fuel tune.

I’d recommend a couple cheap option based on what your looking to do....

For performance tracking get the Dragy device for $150 which connects via bluetooth to your phone and has all the performance data you want (plus has a social element where you can post your times to the leaderboards by location or manufacturer).

second, for logging basic data like IAT, boost, timing, fuel rail pressure, some performance data too get the OBDLink MX+ plug in for $100 and their app is free. Works great for basic logging and also Bluetooth based so you can run Dragy with OBDLink and neither will disconnect while your switching Apps during testing. Am sure there are many more expensive and better options, but for basics this is all you need.

Hey Kenny! I actually follow you on dragy!

this seems like a good option, but I was thinking of something more granular things Like see waste gate demand/turbo efficiency, knock etc.

I def like the app part though where I can see real time data while driving.

max yeah this is a quick/cheap and limited option of course. Think you need a HPtuner app and laptop to log those data points you mentioned which would be awesome to get via an iPhone app but I don’t think anyone offers that.
