Set out to make my own air box intake spacers... kinda DIY
So I’ve been seeing a lot a guys upgrading their intakes via drop ins or complete replacements lately and having great results. So I decided I’d try to make my own air box spacers cause it did look very hard. Well.. I ended up making my own complete boxes filter etc. and I am happy how they turned out as well. I’ve done some experimenting along with data logs from HPT and dragy runs to back them up. They work! I spent less thsn 200.$ making these an of course the time. I’m a happy camper. 👍🏽 Made lids so I didn’t have to worry about dealing with the hood. Then just got some weatherstrip an made them open style.
That looks to be amazing work!! What's the butt dyno report?
Thank you sir, this was just prototype I could’ve done better but I wanted to see if it made any difference. Dragy trap went from stock 124.xxMph to 128.xx mph on back to back runs vs the stock intake and filters.
wg duty cycles used to be mid high 90% now they peak at high 80’s an drop down.

thats impressive ... 4mph!! That's real power
also nice on less use of wg
Very impressive in both results and ingenuity. Ever though of modifying the hood with intake vents or screens over the filters and just ditching the snorkels? Granted the expense would be greater but it might look really *****in' cool too.
$200 compared to $1400 for the blackboost....is a huge win. I like the look.
Your intake is really nice. I agree with what you are saying in that the mercedes tax is incredibly high with many MB aftermarket tuners. Has anyone looked into running the turbo intake directly to the front of the radiator instead of pulling from the top of the engine? I haven't really taken mine apart to see what it would take but that may be the cheapest and best way to draw the air. The shorter the intake pipe the better.

Looked into it, but there's very little room for filters there.
I'm building something similar but with larger surface area air filters. I'll be going a slightly different direction in regards to airflow across the filters though. More to come later this week.
I know I speak for a lot more than myself but I'd be interested and happy to buy one of these intakes from you.
hahaha thanks guys! Yea I just didn’t want to spend 1400 on them when I felt I could accomplish the same thing for a fraction of the cost. If it didn’t work then I wasn’t going to be out a whole lot, just my time. I’m happy with them. I made them probably 4 different times tweaking an adjusting but finally I was like I just want to test them before I keep burning time on them. An instantly notices a difference. I know all the tricks now so if I made a few more sets I don’t think it would take nearly as long.
I have yet to try, as i like the look with out the cover. Ill prob sell my carbon fiber cover and just not have one. Ill report back when i try it out, it may require trimming not sure.
This is my homemade intake. Still uses the stock airbox. You have to remove the stock air filter and cut out the foam edges, and use it to reseal the box. Add some cones at the fronts and BOOM. Cones sit right behind the snorkels so fresh air is flowing right on them. I also moved those rubber engine bay seals up 8 inches so more air can flow in the cones. Whole thing cost me $100. Definitely an increase in power.
