Getting back into E63 Wagon
I've been missing my 16 E63S Wagon since I sold it couple years ago, and I am looking to get back into it. It seems like the market has shrunk a bit since I last looked. I only see a handful of 14-16 wagons. The ones with low mileage seem to ask ~$60K. There is a certified one at MB LA which has been sitting for awhile now. Has an accident hx though. Perhaps I can negotiate down to a good price. Anybody here with insight on this car. I'm in the opposite coast, so can't see it in person. Or, if anyone knows a good place to look for these on sale, please let me know. Thank you in advance.
Also, my go to sources were Autotrader and Bring a Trailer. eBay seems to have few options and higher than "average". Car Gurus's mobile app and website was not great to navigate and filter but with these rare vehicles you have to search everywhere.

Most I saw listed on the internet were not as good as the ones the dealers were just prepping to sell. If you see something good, you have to be sure and move fast. I lost a couple by asking questions.
I feel you have to swoop in on these at the dealer level, or settle for and pick through the leftovers that get listed on the car sites.

I was also stalking Autotrader, the dealer websites locally, and eventually I saw the car I ending up buying pop up on Autotrader and their website with no pics. I immediately texted my sales guy and asked about the car...he didn't even know it was coming in yet, but by doing so, I got first in line to buy the car. By the end of that week, they had 6 other people who had reached out wanting to buy it.
Doesn't give you a lot of negotiation room...lol...but when there are 20 or fewer for sale at any given time, and even fewer with one owner, lower miles and good service history...you gotta pay to play hahaha.
Good luck finding what you want. I'm loving mine.

Below of course only applies to wagons I looked for across the entire country, last year
When I purchased a 13 last year it was the same case for me as happened to find it before it was listed. It had 42k Miles and was 42k. It was fully loaded (every package but lsd) and very underpriced which allowed me to buy a top fidelity warranty at dealer cost, from a friend, as well
Within 24 hrs of listing a placeholder ad, the dealer had 4 deposits after me, which I placed based on a few cellphone shots. The “normal retail” price tiers for a proper 14 with 50k was as low as 50. And for a 16, as low as 60. These “bargain” cars sold immediately. So really you are looking in the 65k dollar range (for 50k miles) plus Covid tax since used cars in general are more expensive right now. Dealers which could be great now have low inventory of all luxury cars.
I wanted a better 14-16 than I could afford but love that I was able to acquire the last of the true rwd that had only a tiny amount produced. Everyone finds the value some way.
these are amazing cars
1)- with the RS-6 Avant just out, many owners are jumping ships hence the influx of so many 18+ wagons into the market
2)- At $90+ price range, these wagons still have lots of depreciation to have, so I avoided them
3)- Quite a few 18+ are already in high 70-low 80's but they all have issues. I know of an 18 wagon that had high paint meter readings on the doors and the car was gone within 2 days priced 78 when it was traded in at an Audi dealer. Ask yourself, why would an Audi dealer sell a Wagon with mid 20's miles for 78 when similar cars are FS for high 80"s?
4)- Cars at Independent dealers are bit cheaper but always riskier as you don't know the origin and the history of the car, so I tend to stay from them unless I vet the dealer/the car and the previous owner
5)- Leased cars, i always avoid for various reasons.
6)- I bought the '14 for the fact that not only did the exterior styling appealed to me but it also had an AWD and more power. I don't tune my cars so having 77 more HP from the previous year was like having an already tuned wagon from the factory.
7)- The older the car is, the higher the after market warranty and the newer the car is the cheaper the warranty is. I always like to get a warranty for it helps sell the car quicker ( I go through them every 2 years or so) not to mention the peace of mind.
I chose 14 over 16 'coz I couldn't find a nice 16 at the time not to mention not much differences between the 14-16 besides the later having the car play.
Bottom line is, no matter what year wagon you buy, these are rare and great cars.

Second was larger engine size. There is no replacement for displacement. Merc (and others) are all using 4.0 TT set ups. So, I saw this as a last opportunity to get a big motor. I'm sure at some point I will get into a newer car.

We Americans love to buy more car than we can afford (=leasing).
A car leased and returned and then CPO:d is definitely a good candidate. if it fails the CPO process, run...
what would everyone consider a steal of a deal? don't plan on keeping it for more than a year or two so looking at resale at this point.
also waiting for window sticker to get total msrp but found this when running the vin.
That is a cool and unusual spec.
If you are looking to flip in a year I think the combination of a (now) three owner car and (maybe) Covid premium reversal will hurt a little bit.
$65 is a decent price, probably about market - esp since it's CPO.
