Curious if anyone has attempted a turbo blanket install on an M157 (2016 E663 AMGs) without taking the engine or turbos out. Basically an in-place installation...

Cant help you on that.....but you might like to see this if you have not already....Quite interesting.

 

That is not going to happen in an AWD car - there is no room to access the turbos with the engine in place.

 

I have not seen this video but I have seen several others with actual dyno pulls. The under hood temp on this car is ridiculous given the large V8 and 2 turbos that sit right next to cylinder 1 and 5...
I forsee big benefit for $299 (PTP blankets) but I'm afraid of the install so looking for insight /help as I'm not planning on taking the engine our or even replacing the turbos.

Cylinder 1,5 coils take a beating too leading to CEL's

 

Yea this is the primary reason why I was looking at these but The gentleman above said impossible to install w/o engine out - maybe I'll get some head shield tubes to put over coils.

 

It might be able to be done with a little lowering of the sub frame and moving a few things out of the way. Not 100% sure.

 

I tried removing intake air plumbing and had no luck. my next attempt is to put the car on a lift and remove the downpipe from the turbo's.

I have purchased turbo blankets and would love to benefit from having them installed.

To bad the previous owner did not have turbo blankets installed when he had the engine out having the heads re-done.
