I am in talks with a local seller of a 2010 E63 AMG. It has 57,000 original miles on it. He is the 4th owner and has had it for 7,000-8,000 miles.
It was a lease car until 18,000 miles. According to the carfax the car had been regularly serviced at MB of Beverly Hills up until 35,000 miles.
At 38,000 miles it was "serviced at Beverly Hills Porsche"
Sometime around 45,000 miles, the car was rear-ended bad enough that it was declared salvage, airbags were not deployed. (pics attached)
The car looks like it was bought at auction and repaired with the title rebuilt.
At around 50,000 miles the car was purchased by the previous owner.
I paid for a PPI on the car that showed the car has no frame or structural damage, and the things needed on the car are normal wear and tear items. Rear pads and rotors, right rear tire (from doing burnouts i imagine), brake flush, tie rods, sway bar link, and alignment
The car runs and drives extremely well. The mechanic at the shop says the motor and tranny work perfectly and can't hear any rough noises from the engine.
I doubt the head bolts have been replaced. I called MB of Beverly Hills and they say they weren't done while they were servicing it and the current owner has never removed the valve covers to look and see if they have been done.
The last two oil changes have been done personally by the Seller. But other than the Carfax there are no service records with this car....
He wants $23,500 for the car.
Images are of the car when it was wrecked and of the car now.
Would love some insight from some other W212 owners. Would I be getting hosed? Any help is appreciated.
IMO that price is at least $5k high for a rebuilt title. For a little more $ you can get a clean title with a few more miles. Fwiw I recently paid $25k for an '11 clean title prior CPO, full dealer history, all options, pp, designo matte paint, dvd etc. and 80k miles. Even at that price I feel I overpaid a bit but it is what it is during these awkward financial times.
Pros you have a relatively low mile vehicle with some evidence of dealer services, a clear PPI, and no front end accidents that would have affected the mechanical parts. Also the crash pics were from 1 year ago so the 15k post-repair miles are a good sign, albeit 15k miles in 1 year is relatively high for these cars. Cons are rebuilt title, no specific records, and price. Plus it needs about $1500 in fungible maintenance. That crash was a good hit you can see the C pillar crumpled so it had extensive repairs. I don’t have experience with rebuilt title cars but I believe you will be limited on insurance options ie Idk if you can get comprehensive coverage on a rebuilt title car. Also I see base 18” wheels on the crash pic and PP wheels on the rebuilt photo. So despite its relatively clean appearance it nonetheless has too many red flags. My .02
I personally would rather have a clean titled high mileage car than low mileage with salvaged or rebuilt title.
Easier to sell, plus I have a buddy that purchased a salvaged SL55 that had some surprises when he removed the bumper. It was also a front collision, you never know who might cut corners when fixing a car especially if they got rid of it.
There is a clean title, 2011, 61kmile, zero accident white e63 in NC for $22,800. (his payoff) I was going to buy it, but it just take to many hoops to jump through to get it. but if your a risk taker, go for it.
Dont buy a salvage car, unless you never plan on selling it
