Mityvac fail

New to me 16 cls63s, 12k miles. I read a few posts quoting the service manual specifically stating the m157 is not to have the oil vacuumed out but always to be drained. Figured I would try anyway but still open the drain to see what else pours out.

Ive used the Mityvac on my c63 and always sucked out 9+ quarts. A little trick was to jack the front of the car up and let gravity drain the oil in the oil cooler back to the pan and pull out a bit more. Always worked.

The oil level on the m157 was at the minimum mark so I'm guessing it was down 1.5 quarts? Not exactly sure. Car was warm but only managed to get 6 quarts out with the Mityvac. I moved around the hose many times and I am positive it bottomed out in the pan. I even pushed the hose extra hard which moved it off the bottom of the pan and sideways into the pan. No luck. The length of hose was equal to and longer then the dipstick.

Opened the drain plug and out comes more oil. Manipulated the jacks to raise the front of the car higher to pull some oil from the cooler and wound up with 2 more quarts.

Total 8 quarts removed with the dipstick reading minimum. Is the total oil volume 9 + 1 quart for the cooler? Next change Ill just open the oil cooler bolt instead

So, did I just fail at using the Mityvac which I have used successfully for years?

Interesting, I was planning to do my oil change this weekend with the Mittyvac, so following to see what others here have to say regarding the vac with the M157 not draining everything.

What was the temp reading at the time of the change? Maybe it needs to be a bit warmer.

maybe 15-30 mins from full normal running temp?

So what's wrong with changing it the old fashioned way?

I believe the service manual calls for 90* C (194F) for the coolant but does not mention oil temp. Regardless, oil temp was over 130F and was turned off for about 20min before I used the mityvac

Absolutely nothing. Im just trying to understand why MB states the m157 oil is not to be vacuumed out but instead always drained. I find it hard to believe that vacuuming does not remove almost the same amount of oil as draining does but what do I know

The WIS for the m157 instructs to drain out the bottom. no VAC in the procedure at all. probably for this reason

I have two cars with M157 engines a 2013 E63 and 2018 GLE 63s coupe. I've used the vacuum method and the drain plug method. Either way I get out 9 quarts. Maybe your diptube isn't long enough? I know the Dipstick on my GLE is slightly longer than my E.

Take a look on page 13 of the attachment. It shows the oil pan and what could be stopping you from retrieving your missing oil. I would be interested in knowing which oil cooler bolt was being referred to when trying to remove all the remaining oil.
I am also including the oil change procedure and check oil level guide. Personally I am still confused on how long to wait to check oil level. Hope it helps.
